Utility-Scale Renewable Commissioning & ISO Market Registration Specialist

We are seeking an experienced and highly knowledgeable consultant to support establishing a best-in-class commissioning and market registration program for utility-scale renewable energy IPP (solar, wind, and energy storage) operating in multiple ISOs with a focus on PJM, SPP, and CAISO. This role will focus on assessing and improving existing processes, defining how cross-functional teams should execute ISO-specific requirements, and ensuring efficient and compliant project execution leading up to commercial operation. This is a hybrid role located in Denver, CO, with occasional travel to Texas.  This will be a 6-8 week contract at 20 hours/week. 

Responsibilities include: 

The consultant will assess existing commissioning and ISO registration processes for utility-scale solar, wind, and storage projects across multiple jurisdictions to identify ways to standardize and improve performance across projects. The role focuses on establishing a best-in-class program, streamlining execution, reducing risk, and accelerating commercial operation. 

• Lead end-to-end assessments of commissioning and ISO market registration processes for utility-scale solar, wind, and storage assets 

• Evaluate and identify gaps in project readiness related to SCADA, telemetry, metering, and interconnection testing 

• Ensure alignment with ISO-specific requirements  

• Develop tailored recommendations to streamline commissioning timelines, enhance documentation quality, and de-risk market entry 

• Coordinate with consulting team to develop or refine commissioning and market registration playbooks and ISO onboarding frameworks across ISOs  

• Work with consulting team to develop executive-level reporting and actionable insights to improve operational readiness and commercial outcomes 

• Must be available for travel to client site, as needed (up to 25% of the time) 

Requirements

Qualifications:  

• 10+ years of experience in utility-scale renewable energy project execution or technical consulting (solar, wind, storage) 

• 7+ years of hands-on experience with commissioning and ISO market registration across PJM, SPP, and/or CAISO 

• Expertise in ISO requirements including PJM Market Gateway Process, and SPP MOD-032, and CAISO NRI processes 

• Strong knowledge of SCADA integration, telemetry protocols, and NERC/FERC interconnection compliance standards 

• Proven ability to lead cross-functional assessments, identify process gaps, and implement improvements under tight timelines 

• Exceptional communication and stakeholder management skills, including experience interfacing with ISOs, utilities, and technical vendors, and senior management 

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering, energy systems, or related technical field required; advanced degree or PMP certification a plus
