SUMMARY: Responsible for interpreting IRS code, regulations, and legislation to edit products as changes occur. Works across departments to set and meet product deadlines and works with supervisor to coordinate the efforts of staff responsible for content preparation. Builds on existing processes and procedures to increase efficiency and accuracy and assists in establishing quality assurance procedures. Uses a variety of software and proprietary programs, works closely with publication editors, and adheres to established deadlines.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned to meet production department objectives.
- Works with manager to set deadlines for production cycles and assure that deadlines are met, according to established policies and procedures.
- Edits products/source material by interpreting IRS regulations and code section amendments as changes occur, according to established guidelines.
- Works closely with editors and managers from editorial departments and IT to ensure that production needs are met.
- Coordinates the department’s efforts of compiling updated databases for publication.
- Builds on existing processes and procedures to increase efficiency and accuracy, including using new technology and software to streamline work, maintaining quality assurance and controls, and engaging in new product development.
- Manages source data through the production process for assigned products, including building, validating, and finalizing database files.
- Runs conversions on data to conform to database formats. Analyzes scripts as necessary when conversions don’t process accordingly.
- Runs specific software processes to create database files for updating publications.
- Cross-trains with other department members and acts as backup for other publications when necessary.
- May write and edit headlines, abstracts, and summaries. Completes entries in the Content Management System, and attaches source files. Prepares them for publication, according to established policies and procedures.
- Ensures proper citation style, according to established policies and procedures and company style guide.
KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS:
- Excellent written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills, including the ability to create and work with teams, and to interact tactfully with co-workers
- Demonstrated project management skills
- Strong computer and word processing skills
- Thorough understanding of the Web and other forms of electronic publishing
- Knowledge of HTML, XML, and Web production preferred
- In-depth knowledge of proprietary formatting structure
- Ability to meet strict deadlines, and adjust to changing priorities
- Demonstrated dependability through punctual attendance
Requirements
- College degree in computer field or the equivalent in experience required
- Understanding of how IRS regulation and tax code amendment language is incorporated into reference products preferred
- Editing experience and ability to interpret IRS code highly preferred
- At least two years of related experience in a publishing environment
- Experience using various software programs and Content Management Systems a plus
- Experience in production scheduling required
