Terraphase is seeking a Principal Geotechnical Engineer to join and lead our team in our Tacoma, WA office. This senior role involves strategic oversight, technical leadership, and business development to drive the success of high-profile geotechnical projects.
The Role
- Provide executive-level leadership and technical direction for complex geotechnical projects, including site investigations, foundation design, slope stability analysis, seismic assessments, and geotechnical evaluations.
- Develop and implement strategic plans for geotechnical engineering services, ensuring alignment with business goals and client expectations.
- Oversee and mentor project teams, providing advanced technical expertise, guidance, and quality assurance.
- Lead the preparation of comprehensive geotechnical reports, proposals, and design recommendations with a focus on innovative, cost-effective solutions.
- Ensure technical excellence and regulatory compliance, staying current with industry standards, codes, and evolving practices.
- Build and maintain strong client relationships, enhancing Terraphase’s market presence through networking, client meetings, and business development initiatives.
- Provide thought leadership by contributing to professional conferences, publications, and community engagement efforts.
- Promote a culture of mentorship, supporting the growth and development of junior engineers through training, supervision, and knowledge sharing.
- Coordinate multidisciplinary teams to achieve successful project outcomes on time and within budget.
Who You Are
- M.S. in Geotechnical Engineering, or a related field.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license in the state of Washington.
- Minimum of 15 years of experience in geotechnical engineering, with at least 5 years in a senior leadership role.
- Proven track record of successfully managing and delivering high-profile geotechnical projects.
- Extensive experience working with local environmental regulators, vendors, and geographic conditions.
- Exceptional verbal, technical writing, and presentation skills.
- Self-motivated, adaptable, dependable, and responsive with a strong commitment to quality.
- Collaborative leadership style with a demonstrated ability to inspire, mentor, and develop teams.
- Deep expertise in geotechnical aspects of environmental remediation (e.g., large excavation projects, hazardous waste management).
- Proficient in advanced geotechnical software and design tools.

Salary
Compensation for this position is based on years of experience, technical expertise, technical education, and geographic location with a range of $120,000 to $200
