Faculty Opportunity in Vision Research [Req#: 841319, Position#: 125870]
UT Southwestern Medical CenterAbout the role
Description
The Department of Ophthalmology at UT Southwestern Medical Center is expanding our vision research program and is seeking exceptional applicants at all levels from early-career to established investigators. A background focused solely on vision science is not a prerequisite. Rather, the most important criterion is excellence in an area of basic and/or translational science and an interest in applying this expertise to vision research. Areas of particular interest include immunology, microglial biology, neurodegeneration and regeneration, genetics and epigenetics, gene therapy, cellular therapy and related fields.
The Department of Ophthalmology is a recognized leader in vision science and provides a vibrant environment for basic, translational and clinical research programs. UT Southwestern has a highly collaborative community of researchers, including numerous Nobel Laureates, National Academy members, and Howard Hughes investigators. Successful applicants will be encouraged to develop innovative projects with other scientists at UT Southwestern and to obtain a secondary appointment in a basic science department or center.
Established investigators should have a record of sustained extramural funding from the NIH or equivalent. Early career investigators should have an excellent training record and a clear plan for developing their own research program, and they will be expected to obtain extramural funding within the first three years. Candidates must hold a Ph.D., M.D. or equivalent and will be appointed at the level of Assistant, Associate or Full Professor, commensurate with academic accomplishments and experience. Tenure-track appointments are available where appropriate.
