Job Summary

TYLin is seeking a Senior Global Counsel capable of assisting with a variety of legal issues for the company in North America and Asia Pacific, including contracts, claims and litigation, corporate, and transactional matters.

The attorney will report to the SVP, General Counsel in San Francisco, CA and work closely with the Chief Operating Officer, Asia Pacific, leaders of our Asia Pacific businesses located in Taiwan, Singapore, Malaysia, Australia, and Mainland China, and other members of the Company’s Legal, Compliance & Risk (LCR) team and executive leadership, outside counsel, and multiple client groups within the Company, with a specific focus on business activities in Asia Pacific.

Initially, the role will support North America contracts, claims, litigation, and other project risk management activities as part of a Contracts & Risk team led by the Region Chief Counsel – North America. Over time, for the right candidate, the role will increasingly focus on supporting the legal and risk needs of our Asia Pacific businesses.

Responsibilities & Qualifications

Location

Hybrid (3–4 days per week), preferably in a major city in North America or where other members of the global legal team are located. Vancouver, San Francisco, Chicago, Toronto, Vancouver, New York are preferred but other cities will be considered.

Key Responsibilities

North America Responsibilities:

  • Lead legal negotiation and documentation of project contracts, including joint ventures, teaming agreements, and government contracts.
  • Provide proactive legal support during the proposal phase, including risk assessments for RFPs and bid strategies.
  • Manage claims and litigation, including pre-claim situations on projects.
  • Manage and coordinate external counsel on project-specific or specialized legal issues.

Asia Pacific Responsibilities:

  • Manage a variety of legal matters in our Asia Pacific businesses in collaboration with local teams on contracts, claims and litigation, compliance, corporate, and transactions.
  • Support business activities and assist with corporate compliance and governance for TYLG’s subsidiaries in Asia Pacific, including Taiwan, Singapore, Malaysia, Australia, and Mainland China.
  • Support cross-border business collaboration, including support of complex, cross-border contracting and project delivery.
  • Identify legal risks and opportunities and propose practical, business-minded solutions.
  • Partner with other Legal Team members to provide advice and creative solutions to a wide variety of clients, across a broad range of intra-company issues.
  • Other special projects and duties to support the SVP, General Counsel or LCR team.
  • The ideal candidate for this job is looking to grow his/her general corporate and transactions skills both within his/her jurisdiction and for other jurisdictions, with an ability to handle a large volume of tasks to support international business growth and geographic expansion.

Qualifications

  • JD or LLM law degree; active member of a U.S. State or Canadian Provincial bar.
  • 12+ years of experience in private practice and/or commercial or project counsel roles (in-house and/or private practice), preferably in infrastructure, engineering, or construction sectors.
  • Strong preference for prior working experience in-country in Asia Pacific region and/or for businesses located in Taiwan, Singapore, Malaysia, Australia, and/or Mainland China.
  • Fluency in English required; business level fluency in Mandarin Chinese required; working knowledge of other languages for countries in Asia Pacific is an advantage.
  • Excellent ability to integrate legal advice with business goals.
