Summary
CHS Inc. a $45B global enterprise has an exciting opportunity within our CHS Transportation organization. The Truck Logistics Specialist will manage 3rd party carrier relationships, spend, capacity and service and CHS truck fleet shipment execution and truck back haul coordination to maximize value for CHS Ag product lines in our Valley Region. This transportation professional will identify and execute continuous improvement and change efforts to drive value for the organization. This position will report to the Logistics Manager/Valley Region and can be in one of several locations in the Valley Region: Devils Lake, ND, Drayton, ND, Milton, ND, St. Hilaire, MN, Erskine, MN, Warren, MN, or Inver Grove Heights, MN and will work a hybrid schedule.
Responsibilities
- Manage daily CHS truck fleet logistics, dispatching loads to CHS drivers to support grain trading and CHS location operations, and manage 3rd party carrier relationships, spend, capacity and service.
- Collaborate with other CHS product line transportation and trading teams to identify and execute on truck backhaul opportunities for both 3rd party carriers and CHS truck fleet to maximize value for CHS.
- Build strong relationships with CHS drivers, operations/trading teams and 3rd party carriers
- Maintain and promote a strong safety culture and follow all safety policies, procedures, and regulations for both CHS private truck fleet and 3rd party carriers. Identify and communicate workplace hazards and correct or seek assistance in correcting unsafe actions or conditions.
- Support CHS’s Transportation and Logistics' truck carrier management strategy through negotiations, relationship management, carrier selection and CSH1 enterprise approach.
- Negotiate rates and transportation contracts with carriers, manage daily truck shipments for grain and grain products, and fertilizer for FOB origin pick up and customer delivery, build long term relationships and expedite the transportation of products and troubleshooting as needed.
- Independently analyze current transportation operations practices to resolve process and cost improvement opportunities.
- Ensure rates paid for transportation services are competitive and sourced in the best interest of CHS. Ensure that all third-party transportation relationships are profitable and accretive to business unit earnings.
- Monitor carrier performance/KPI’s, identify root causes, take corrective action to reverse negative trends and maintain required service levels.
- Partner with both internal (commercial management and finance) and external customers (Vendors and customers) to meet the demands of the business.
Minimum Qualifications (required)
- 2+ years of experience in Logistics, Supply Chain and/or Procurement
- High School diploma or GED
Additional Qualifications
- Technical, Associates degree or higher, preferred in Business, Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Operations Management, or related field.
- 3+ years of transportation/logistics, supply chain and/or grain trading/merchandising experience
- Understanding of standard shipping practices for covered hopper trucks and tank trucks
- Knowledge of commodity markets, contractual terms, truck transportation/logistics
- SAP and CMIS knowledge and experience (preferred)
- Act with a sense of urgency in dealing with time sensitive issues
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, and ability to influence others
- Experience building strong cross functional partnerships and collaborative relationships
- Good learning agility
- Leadership skills
- Ability to work after hours or weekends/holidays to address truck carrier service issues.
