Job Description

As part of a world-class team of industry experts in the Oils and Chemicals Research Team, you will analyse demand, supply and pricing for oil products and liquid renewable fuels in North America, examining both short and long-term trends. You will also undertake detailed analysis of refining asset profitability using our market-leading modelling tools. The role offers the opportunity to develop forecasting techniques and industry knowledge through interactions with other members of the global Oils and Chemicals team. Together you will generate a detailed product and asset-level view of the future of oil product markets and the refining sector. You will be a source of insight, internally and for clients, on the fundamentals underpinning downstream oil markets in North America.

As part of the wider global Oils and Chemicals Research and Commodity Analytics Teams you will contribute to market-leading integrated analysis of the oil and energy value chains. You will work with, and learn from, experts on crude supply and pricing, and from other commodity sectors, as you formulate integrated outlooks for the future of global commodity markets.

You will be comfortable articulating our views on oil product markets and refining within the context of our broader commodity market outlook, to clients and prospects. Through research trips, client interactions and industry events you will pro-actively build your network to understand the key topics and challenges in the industry. You will address these in your contribution to our regular deliverables and through development of specific articles and webinars.

Qualifications

We are looking for a Principal Analyst to join our Oils and Chemicals Research Team.  The main focus of the role will be to analyse downstream oil markets and refining assets in North America. The successful candidate will join a global team of world-class industry experts undertaking industry-leading fundamental research and modelling of all aspects of the oil, oil products, chemicals and liquid renewables value chains. Our research and consulting services provide clients with unique insight into the future of those markets, giving them a robust platform to make the best commercial and strategic decisions.

About you and how you can excel in this role

You have demonstrable interest and substantive experience in an analytical role. Experience as an senior analyst or economist in the downstream oil industry would be a distinct advantage. You are highly numerate, with a high attention to detail and proven analytical and problem-solving skills, enabling you to formulate leading-edge analysis from a variety of data and information. You are focused on continuous improvement and play a key role in implementing better ways of working.

You have effective interpersonal and communication skills, including the presentation skills necessary to present your findings to industry participants at a range of levels. This is coupled with your ability to communicate highly complex and detailed market analysis, delivering messages that are easily understood. You have a proven ability to work as part of a team making a tangible contribution to team goals, possibly involving multiple locations.

You thrive in a collaborative, commercial and client-centric environment. You will have a proven dedication to meeting the needs of clients and responding to feedback to make service improvements. The way in which you work enables you to build strong, collaborative relationships and influence at all levels. You use this engagement commercially to understand client perspectives and what is important to their business decisions.

In addition, candidates must have:

  • A Bachelor degree in a relevant discipline
  • Fluent English language skills, both oral and written
