 SECURITY OFFICER, UNARMED

Security Officer works in a high pace environment and is responsible for performing checkpoint gate controls. Preparation of traffic logs, visitor logs, and visitor processing, some patrolling the premises of industrial and railroad property or buildings to detect suspicious activity, assist tenants, and ensure the safety of occupants. 


Essential Functions

• MUST be able to work in a multitasking environment stationed inside a stationary security post. 

• MUST be able to work on all shift’s morning, afternoon and nights with weekends and holidays with rotating shifts. (8 hours or 12 hours shifts) with frequent overtime on short notice. 

• MUST have a vehicle and cellphone. 

• Monitor entrance of property through visual and surveillance CCTV systems. 

• Must have basic proficiency in the use of email and computer. 

• Identify visitors and ask for appropriate documents. 

• Guard against theft and maintain security. 

• Respond to alarms and calls of distress. 

• Stop suspicious people and ask for identification. 

• Perform preliminary investigations of thefts and file security reports. 

• Call for Police, Fire and EMS aid if necessary. 

• Use walkie-talkies, pagers, computers, and cell phones to stay in contact with security personnel. Answer telephone calls to take messages, answer questions, and provide information during non-business hours or when the switchboard is closed. 

• Report rule infractions and violations. 

• Issue violation tickets and citations / respond to calls needing security assistance and evict violators. 

• Prevent passage of prohibited articles into restricted areas. 

• Inspect and adjust security systems, equipment, and machinery to ensure operational use and to detect evidence of tampering. 

• Regulate and monitor building systems including HAZAMT systems. 

• Inspect windows and doors to ensure locks are in place and working. 

• Respond to acts of violence / Render medical assistance. 

• Perform other duties as assigned based on the needs of the company. 


Hours

• Varied 

• Friday 2200 to 0600 

• Saturday 1800 to 0600 

• Sunday 1800 to 0600 

• Monday 2200 to 0700 

• Average of 42 to 45 hours weekly 

Requirements

  

The following generally describes the knowledge and ability required to enter the job and/or be learned within a short period of time in order to successfully perform the assigned duties. Knowledge of:

  

Required Education, Experience and Training 

• All candidates MUST provide a written document from their doctor indicating that the candidate is in good physical condition capable of undertaking intense security training prior to being accepted into the training. 

• Completed or willing to complete 20-hour Basic Security  

• Complete and successfully pass initial Use of force, Baton, OC, Handcuffing, CPR training.  

• Operate patrol vehicle in a safe matter with a valid driver’s license. 

• Pass all required HAZAMT Training and use of Protective Personal Protection equipment (Gas Mask). 

• Pass Background Checks 

• Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation (IDFPR) mandates that all Proprietary Security Force employees MUST submit their fingerprints through Illinois State Police (ISP). 

• All Security Protective Services (SPS) officers will be required to undergo background investigation conducted by Security Protective Services (SPS). 


Education and Experience Guidelines Education/Training:

Graduation from high school or equivalent and must have completed a LETSB-approved academy at time of appointment. Or be eligible to enroll into the ILETSB academy and pass the Illinois POWER Test.

License or Certificate: A valid Illinois Motor Vehicle Operator's License and a satisfactory driving record are a condition of hire.

A satisfactory driving record is one absent of misdemeanor convictions or multiple infraction convictions. Loss of a driver’s license and/or an unsatisfactory driving record may result in employee discipline, up to and including termination.

Criminal Record: Officers shall not have been convicted of any felony. A misdemeanor conviction may result in applicant disqualification and employee disciplinary action, up to and including termination.
