The Opportunity

Roche Diagnostics develops and produces medical tests and digital tools that provide information to help healthcare professionals find the right treatment for patients and deliver the best patient care to improve, prolong and save lives. 

Roche Sequencing Solutions is developing new technologies to make genetic testing easy, reliable, and affordable.  As a team member on the Systems Integration team, you will learn to use the Roche Single Molecule Sequencing platform to optimize the final operating protocols while designing & performing wet-lab experiments to further develop the sequencing solution through integration of subcomponents and optimization of the entire system. 

The Roche Sequencing team is seeking a passionate Systems Integration Engineer/Principal Systems Engineer  to join our Systems Integration Group to support the Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) products. The candidate is expected to be a hands-on key contributor in the feasibility, development, and integration phases of end-to-end NGS solutions.

  • You have demonstrated hands-on development experience of programming languages such as Python, C++ for hardware automation and/or statistics analysis applications

  • You will be responsible for optimizing the final protocols through integrating the performance of the hardware, software and chemistry components of the entire system.

  • You will provide Wet Lab support such as setting up sequencing runs, using standard laboratory equipment & workflows (such as pipetting and dilutions.)

  • You have a high level of experience/ability to troubleshoot instrument failures through replacing hardware parts or understanding software failure modes; you are experienced in building software workarounds while filing jira tickets and informing stakeholders of the bug.   

  • You will monitor data flow in the sequencing pipeline from run initiation to primary and secondary analysis while working closely with experts to increase reliability.

  • You will work closely with the hardware and software engineers to provide feedback and make tradeoffs to optimize the performance at an overall system level.

This position is located on-site in Santa Clara, CA.

Who You Are:

(Required)

  • You hold a bachelor’s Degree and/or Advanced Degree in Biomedical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Software Engineering, or related disciplines with 8+ years of experience (B.S.), 6+ years of experience (M.S.), or 3+ years of experience (PhD)

  • You have demonstrated hands-on NGS & Wet Lab experience

  • You have experience with statistical tools (e.g. Python/JMP for regression analysis, ANOVA) and Design of Experiments methodology, application of statistical process control; demonstrated experience using linux based operating systems and linux command line interfaces; and experience with C++, MATLAB, GIT, Python or similar tools for data analysis and/or automation.

  • You have experience leading and mentoring others; demonstrated collaborative experience

  • You are adept at planning, prioritizing, multi-tasking, and following through, while remaining highly energetic and focused

  • You have demonstrated interpersonal skills: Strong interpersonal, verbal communication and influencing skills: can influence without authority and has proven experience building  and cultivating relationships with key partners and stakeholders, both internally and externally

The expected salary range for this position based on the primary location Santa Clara, CA is $86,200 - $160,000.  Actual pay will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors permitted by law.  A discretionary annual bonus may be available based on individual and Comp
