The Massachusetts Department of Public Health (DPH) is seeking a dedicated and experienced Registered Nurse V – Nurse Manager to lead the 5 South Unit and Float Team at Lemuel Shattuck Hospital in Jamaica Plain. This pivotal role offers the opportunity to shape high-quality, person-centered care within a dynamic and multidisciplinary environment. As Nurse Manager, you will oversee all aspects of patient care, staff supervision, and unit operations—ensuring excellence through performance improvement and quality assurance initiatives. You’ll provide strategic direction to nursing personnel, foster collaborative relationships across disciplines, and maintain 24/7 accountability for the unit’s clinical and operational success. Please Note: The shift hours for this position are from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. (40 hours per week). Days off are Saturday and Sunday
Duties and Responsibilities (these duties are a general summary and not all inclusive):
Develops and maintains a therapeutic unit environment in which effective patient-centered care is assured.
Collaborates with the nurse Licensed Independent Practitioner (LIP) and other health care professionals in determining and evaluating treatment goals.
Encourages nursing staff to use their strengths and work on their weaknesses in order to provide high quality patient care and ensures that staff receives timely, constructive feedback regarding their performance of patient care duties.
Facilitates collaboration between unit staff and other health care professionals to promote optimal care, treatment, and intervention for all patients.
Facilitates the development of unit staff according to unit, department, and hospital-wide goals.
Provides timely performance reviews for all probationary employees.
Plans, directs and participates in regularly scheduled meetings to share information and problem solve with unit personnel across all three shifts.
Maintains a safe environment for patient/staff while ensuring delivery of treatment and other activities necessary for effective functioning of the unit (s) and hospital.
Directs day-to-day activities of unit support staff in collaboration with Nursing Administration and Nursing Leadership.
Maintains necessary clinical skills through self-directed clinical practice and acts as a clinical resource person for patients and personnel.

Strong leadership in organizing, supervising, and guiding staff to deliver high-quality, patient-centered care

Skilled in managing multiple priorities simultaneously while maintaining attention to detail and clinical standards
Adaptable and resilient under pressure, with the capacity to remain calm and effective in high-stress situations
