About the Team
USDS Offensive Security Operations team is seeking a Offensive Security Engineer. This team will work with the Risk & Compliance team and Control Owners to perform testing of the tools, technology and services (TTS) being introduced in the USDS environment. This testing effort will be done both from how the control framework is being applied to individual TTS and also to test how those TTS are performing and behaving as a security control within the environment.
To succeed in this role, the candidate will possess breadth and depth of knowledge in secure coding principles, security architecture, hardening of operating systems, networking protocols, firewalls, databases and middleware applications, forensics, scripting and programing.
Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with cross-functional control owners to stress test the controls being applied and implemented on TTS in the USDS environment.
- Consult and provide guidance for the design and implementation of key security and compliance controls.
- Construct technical test cases, collect evidence, perform hands on technical testing. Work with Control Owners to evaluate the design, effectiveness, and completeness of controls.
- Look for automation opportunities to automate testing and monitoring efficiency of controls on an ongoing basis.
- Provide feedback to the Risk & Compliance team and the Control Owners around the security control and processes being implemented. Augment the Control Framework and Risk Management Framework from an attacker's point of view.
- Synthesize and report findings, develop remediation recommendations, and track implementation through to completion
- Provide risk-appropriate and pragmatic recommendations to correct identified flaws, vulnerabilities and misconfigurations
- Utilize attacker tools, tactics, and procedures to perform analysis and identify vulnerabilities and mis-configurations
Qualifications
Qualifications:
- Bachelors’ Degree or industry equivalent work experience in IT, Computer Engineering, Cybersecurity or a similar field
- Minimum 5+ years of IT risk, pentest and security controls experience
- Strong writing and documentation skills; you are clear, concise, confident, and unafraid to present your ideas
- Communicating well as this role will require a lot of cross functional collaboration
- Flexible to travel as the need arises to perform testing on-site e.g. Data centers, office locations etc. (Estimated Frequency: once in 2-3 months)
- Demonstrated teamwork and collaboration skills, in particular in working with or contributing to multi-functional teams
- Controls Testing
- Familiarity in IT and security domains (Identity and Access Management, Configuration Management, Vulnerability Management, Incident Management, etc.) and familiarity with technologies and tool stacks across these domains
- Skills in control evaluation and design and working knowledge of industry leading security standards (i.e., ISO, NIST)
- Experience performing internal/external control testing as security control assessor or supporting security compliance as internal compliance resources of physical and cloud infrastructure
- Experience in gathering technical control evidence from stakeholders, coordinating review, and analyzing artifacts received to ensure they meet the intent of the control requirements and demonstrate compliance
