Middleware communication solutions is at the heart of Amadeus applications. It is the messaging backbone of most of Amadeus applications connected to all Amadeus customers around the globe and dealing in a reliable manner with million messages per seconds.

The move to public cloud creates large challenges to be able to move from a one location centric (Erding) architecture to a multi–Data Centers architecture & operations managing 100.000 transactions per second.

Cloud frameworks allows all R&D community to develop their application - 5.000 developers worldwide - in different languages such as C++, Java and Python - GO and Rust are coming in 2024 - following best practices and benefiting from a robust framework to focus on the new functionalities of our Amadeus portfolio.

Summary

The main responsibility and objective of the position of Director of Cloud Frameworks and Communication Systems is to engineer and operate secure and resilient middleware solutions, frameworks and platform services to efficiently develop modern applications and facilitate the inter connections between Amadeus applications, Amadeus deployment regions, and Amadeus customers.

The Director of the unit defines the strategy, ensure financial means are allocated, and is responsible for deliveries quality and planning.

Area of Impact of this Director position:

The Cloud migration success of the Amadeus system relies largely on the successful migration of the middleware components under his responsibility.

Beyond the migration program, moving to Cloud open a large opportunity of designing application using Cloud Native technologies. In that context, the key missions are the following:

• Build and evolve the current communication and Application framework solutions from an Erding centric design to a multi datacenter design based on Azure technologies and distributed datacenters.

• Deliver on current Curiosity plan with high degree of predictability and proactive communication to Curiosity program.

• Build middleware solutions to deliver Disaster & Recovery capabilities of the Amadeus applications minimizing the operational impact of managing a DR.

• Transition the operations of these critical systems from Erding to the cloud using new toolset and a DevOps approach to increase operation efficiency while still maintaining the highest level of stability and compliancy.

• Invent & progressively deliver new communication systems and Application framework relying on Cloud Native designs bringing regular value to the R&D community of developers.

• Grow the people and the division workforce expertise to be recognized as a group with a strong and resilient expertise in the Communication and App framework area.

• Operate in partner mode with internal customers in particular with R&D Business Units.

• Participate to engagement with customers to represent TPE and share on technical and operational excellence of Amadeus. 

It is expected to have strong leadership skills to:

• Ensure timely and appropriate communication to team members.

• Provide leadership and share direction to multiple stakeholders in product management and R&D organization.

• Responsible over technical/functional/business strategy for area of responsibility

• Decisions are guided by technical/functional strategies, objectives and priorities plus resource availability.

• Navigates political landscape in the organization.

• Makes complex decisions in a timely manner, managing risks and consequences.
