About the role
The Medical Assistant (MA) plays a key role in supporting providers and the care team in delivering high-quality, patient-centered healthcare within a managed care environment. The MA performs both clinical and administrative duties to ensure efficient patient flow, accurate documentation, and compliance with managed care protocols and quality metrics.
Clinical Responsibilities:
- Prepare examination rooms and ensure cleanliness and readiness for patient visits.
- Escort patients to exam rooms, verify patient identity, obtain and document vital signs, chief complaint, and medical history in the electronic health record (EHR).
- Assist providers with examinations, procedures, and treatments as needed.
- Administer immunizations, injections, and medications under the providers supervision and according to state and clinic policy.
- Perform EKGs, vision tests, and other diagnostic screenings as required.
- Collect and process lab specimens; ensure proper labeling and documentation.
- Maintain accurate and timely charting in the EHR, ensuring all information is complete prior to provider review.
- Conduct pre-charting and ensure all required documentation, lab results, and preventive care items are updated prior to visits.
- Participate in care coordination, follow-up on provider orders, referrals, and test results.
- Support patient education on chronic disease management, preventive care, and treatment plans.
- Manage patient check-in/check-out procedures when needed.
- Handle phone calls, messages, and patient inquiries in a timely and professional manner.
- Ensure all messages contain complete information for provider review (symptoms, duration, medications, etc.).
- Schedule, diagnostic tests, and follow-up appointments as directed.
- Maintain medical inventory and order supplies as necessary.
- Participate in quality assurance and performance improvement initiatives.
- Accurately complete pre-charting prior to patient appointments.
- Follow up on patient messages and care coordination tasks within designated timelines.
- Demonstrate adherence to managed care protocols and quality indicators (HEDIS, Stars, etc.).
- Maintain a professional demeanor and contribute to a positive patient experience.
- Always ensure HIPAA compliance and patient confidentiality.
- Perform Other Duties as Assigned.

- A minimum of one year work experience as a Certified Medical Assistant.
- Experience with phlebotomy is preferred.
- Medical Assistant Certification is required.
- May require prolonged period of standing, walking and bending.
- Ability to move/lift up to 20 pounds at times.
- Must be able to move/assist with moving patients.
