Job Purpose

Must be qualified to set-up and operate one or a combination of the following CNC laser cutting machinery:

1. 3030 Laser
2. L-20 Laser
3. 5030 Laser
4. Load pallets/welding carts with parts per Parts List and blue print requirements.

*These machines must be properly maintained, operated responsibly and to the potential of the machine.  The Laser Operator must ensure downtime is minimized while ensuring uptime/productivity is maximized at all times.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

1. Work safely.  Safety is the top priority here at Sumter Metal Products.
2. Communicate with supervisor and fellow employees to ensure safety, production, quality and customer requirements are met.
3. Engineering will load jobs into the “Laser” slots of the production shelf.
4. Fab Coordinator or supervisor will issue nesting job to be run, laser operator does not select which nesting program to run.
5. Operators are required to follow nesting and schedule requirements at all times.
6. Using the nesting information, the laser operator will select and load the correct job in laser software and select the correct steel size and gauge to load the laser.
7. Operator will notify Fab Coordinator when current job is complete, and a new job is needed.
8. Operator will ensure all parts and pallets have proper identification paperwork attached.

*The employee must be able to satisfactorily perform all duties and responsibilities referenced in the work instructions for the piece of equipment to be considered as a qualified operator.

1. Operate the CNC laser cutting machine and auxiliary machinery used int eh production process or assist other machine operators.
2. Set up machine/automation-based n material type and thickness, load programs in machines production plan.
3. Knowledge about cutting gases used during laser cutting operation.
4. Monitor level of resonator assist gas system and change per procedures.
5. Prepare cut product for fabrication, loading, welding and shipping.
6. Lift raw cut materials, manually, or using hoist.
7. Uphold all ISO and OSHA standards applicable to the responsibilities above.

*This job has no supervisory responsibilities.

Qualifications

EDUCATION and/ or EXPERIENCE:  

• 2+ years of experience on Trumpf, Amada or similar CNC laser cutting machines (Trumpf TruDisck/TruFlow/Fiber preferred) or other CNC machinery proven experience
• Knowledge of machine tooling and tool maintenance.
• Ability to distinguish different material thickness and types. 

ADDITIONAL SKILLS (REQUIRED)

• Knowledge of manual lifting techniques and cranes/sheet lifts.
• Ability to read blueprints, tape measure and dial or digital calipers.
• Ability to use basic hand tools.

LANGUAGE SKILLS: 

The employee should be able to clearly com
