About the role

We are looking for you – An experienced Architect who has focused on the design of timber buildings in the German (or German speaking) market who wishes to join our Product Evolution team. The Product Evolution team is a multi-disciplinary design-focused unit tasked with developing the next generation of Sustainable Prefabricated Buildings designed for Rapid Automated Manufacture and Assembly.

You will be working alongside other highly experienced Architects, Engineers and timber design specialists. You will be capable and happy to work independently and as part of a close-knit team developing new product designs working alongside the Product Development teams, Research and Development Teams and the Digital Factory design teams. You will be a guiding light for driving forward new designs for entire buildings and components of a building system. The designs you produce are intended to be (when necessary) unique and novel and as such you will be advising the members of our Prototype Manufacturing Center who will build and test your visions.

We are looking for a German speaking colleague with a wide ranging and deep understanding of German technical regulations relating to timber residential design to help us develop our current multi-family housing product lines conscious that in the future we intend to pivot to other building typologies and other marketplaces. As such the range of building typologies you are asked to work upon will be increasingly diverse to match the ambition of the company as its fields of influence grow and expand.

In this role, you will: 

• be involved in the design of Timber Residential and Multi-Use Buildings
• design appropriate and novel solutions for Buildings and Building Components and oversee their prototyping and testing
• work alongside a diverse range of construction professionals, industrial designers, product designers, software developers, procurement and costing specialists and a host of other specialists
• use your skills of interdisciplinary cooperation to interface widely within the company and with external parties from the construction industry and project development world
• be focused on the evolution of new product lines but amenable to outward facing roles such as presenting the companies work and vision to external parties and institutions.

About you 

• Completed university studies (Bachelors, Masters, PHD etc.) and have at least 5 years of experience post-graduation in a leading Architectural/Engineering practice or Timber Manufacturing or Construction Company
• Portfolio of experience in the design of timber buildings in the DACH region
• While not necessary for the role the holding of a professional accreditation to act as an Architect in the DACH region is considered a bonus
• Knowledge of relevant standards such as the Muster-Holzbaurichtlinie (MHolzBauRL) , landesbauordnung (LBO) etc.
• While not necessary for the role experience in procedures and standards for Product Development in Germany e.g. the attainment of Allgemeine bauaufsichtliche Zulassung (abZ)/ Allgemeine Bauartgenehmigung (aBG), European Technical Assessment (ETA) would be seen as a bonus
• Very good written and oral communication skills in both German and English
• While GROPYUS hosts considerable drafting and modelling capabilities individual expertise in drafting/modelling tools (e.g. AutoCAD, Revit, Rhino, Inventor, Sketchup) or other methods of graphical communication/sketching would be considered beneficial.
• Experience in using the Microsoft Office Suite
