The Compliance Senior Accountant position is a Full time, Regular position.

JOB SUMMARY

The Compliance Senior Accountant is responsible for overseeing and ensuring a company's adherence to financial regulations, accounting standards, and internal policies. This role involves monitoring and reviewing financial processes, preparing compliance reports, and working closely with various departments to uphold regulatory standards. The Compliance Senior Accountant provides guidance on financial reporting requirements, assists in audits, and ensures the accuracy of tax filings and other financial documents. 

PRIMARY RESPONSABILITIES

  • Maintain and update accounting records and files.
  • Post transactions and categorize records in the general ledger (e.g., by assets, liabilities, and expenses)
  • Conduct month-end and year-end closures.
  • Verify, allocate, post, and reconcile general ledger accounts.
  • Produce accurate accounting reports and present their results.
  • Analyze financial information and summarize financial status.
  • Detect errors and suggest ways to improve efficiency and spending.
  • Documents accounting processes to maintain and strengthen internal controls and make suggestions to improve financial procedures.
  • Support month-end and year-end close process.
  • Reconciling sub-ledger to general ledger account balances; investigate/resolve reconciling items.
  • Performing monthly variance analysis for balance sheet, income statement and changes in financial position/budget
  • Maintaining and reconciling fixed assets schedules
  • Reconciles bank accounts monthly, verifies deposits, and addresses inquiries from banks.
  • Analyze transactions with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Apply new accounting policies and ensure compliance with rules and regulations.
  • Maintains the general ledger.
  • Reconciles cash disbursement accounts, payroll, customer accounts, and other financial accounts
  •  Responsible for monthly sales and use tax filings and other related tax compliance reports.  Provides outside auditors with assistance; gathers necessary account information and documents to perform annual audit.
  • Undertakes a monthly proactive review of costs and flags account variances to identify and implement operating efficiencies.
  • Reviews accounting transactions for data accuracy.
  • Assists in the preparation and analysis of the periodic management and third parties reporting of financial and operating results.
  • Maintains financial security by adhering to internal controls.
  • Promotes the Company’s mission, vision, objectives, and strategies, offering and receiving feedback, and leading others.
  • Ensure compliance with federal (i.e. IRS), state (i.e. PR Treasury Department, Department of State), and local tax law (Municipality, CRIM) and regulations.
  • Compile and maintain supporting financial data and other documents to provide them to the external tax consultant for the company tax returns preparation.
  • Review complex tax returns, including federal, state, local and special tax returns (i.e Exempt Annual Report).
  • Assist with the financial audits, respond to inquiries and review audited financial statements under GAAP. 
  • Stay updated on changes in tax laws and regulations, conducting tax research as needed.
  • Follow up team and affiliates members to gather information to comply with financial audits timetable.
  • Work closely with other departments, affiliates, auditors and tax consultants to ensure accurate and timely financial statement issuance and tax filing.
  • Provide guidance and support to junior accountants and other staff members when tax changes in tax law and regulations occur.
  • Ensure all tax debts are resolved and follow up with external consultants until final resolution.
  • Complies with all Company policies and administrative processes.
  • Ensures compliance with financial guidelines and relevant legal regulations.
  • Supports the Senior Accounting Manager in other functions as deemed necessary.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting. MBA in Accounting preferred.
  • CPA license preferred.
  • Minimum 7 years of accounting experience as a Senior Accountant or Accountant in a complex accounting environment with focus on compliance and auditing. At least 5 years of accounting experience in public accounting firm.
