Job Description

The Walden University Associate Dean for the School of Counseling is a full-time academic administrator reporting to the Dean of the College of Social and Behavioral Health and is a member of the academic leadership team, leading and contributing to college-wide initiatives as appropriate. This position has leadership responsibility for all levels of counseling programs.

This position requires the ability to foster the success of teams and individuals in a complex distributed virtual environment and the ability to foster change in self, faculty, staff, and students as needed. It also requires strong leadership skills, flexibility, creative problem-solving, and strong specialized knowledge of and commitment to the counseling profession.

• Provides overall academic leadership to the counseling programs and creates a multi-cultural environment of caring and excellence.
• Assists with strategic and operational planning within the counseling programs and participates in strategic and operational planning across the Division and University as appropriate.
• Assists with developing and instituting intermediate and long-range goals for counseling which include student retention and graduation and faculty and staff performance, retention, and development.
• Supports marketing and enrollment efforts to recruit appropriate new students.
• Collaborates across the Division and the University to create and support innovative solutions to complex problems as well as to help create systems that support continuous improvement.
• Assists with specialized accreditation efforts for counseling and participates in HLC accreditation efforts for the University as a whole.
• Manages and develops program directors within counseling to create long-term sustainable leadership for all counseling programs.
• Promotes activities to recruit and develop diverse faculty in an equitable and inclusive environment.
• May perform other duties and responsibilities that may be deemed necessary from time to time.

Qualifications

• PhD in Counselor Education required,  Master’s degree in mental health counseling preferred.
• Five (5) years teaching experience in a Counseling program, online instruction preferred.
• The Associate Dean must maintain their license(s) and any appropriate certifications.
• Faculty Members are also expected to maintain currency with research by reviewing articles, journals, and presentations preferred.
• If participating in research, the Faculty Member may publish and acknowledge Walden University preferred.
• Candidates should possess a significant record of intellectual and professional contributions to the field of Counseling, including experience in the practice of Counseling.
• Knowledge of CACREP accreditation and accountability processes.
• Commitment to advocating for the learning and development needs of students earning their degrees in a distance learning environment including students who are experienced professionals.
• Teaching, advising, and mentoring; commitment to the promotion of applied research and the recruitment and development of a diverse faculty; excellent leadership, communication, team, and human relations skills.
• Candidates should also have experience in faculty/staff development, supervision, evaluation, and assessment.
• Experience with distance learning preferred.
