A Brief Overview
Enterostomal Therapy (ET) Registered Nurses care for patients with a wide variety of medical, surgical, and/or trauma diagnoses. ET RN's may provide services in one or more areas to patients across the lifespan from newborns to the elderly. ET RN's play a pivotal role in providing optimal care to individuals with wound, ostomy, and/or continence needs. These patients may be found in any level of care within the hospital setting including the Emergency Department, Critical Care Units, Operating Room, and Medical-Surgical Units. ET RN's function primarily as clinicians, but also serve as educators to both patients and their peer nurses.

Education Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree Bachelors of Science: Nursing (BSN) Preferred


Experience Qualifications

  • 2 years Professional nursing experience in an acute patient care setting. Required
  • Experience in Wound/Ostomy/Incontinence management and education. Preferred


Skills and Abilities

  • Demonstrates awareness and application of safety issues as identified within the institution. (Required proficiency)
  • Demonstrates awareness of legal issues in all aspects of patient care and departmental functioning. Strives to manage situations in a manner, which minimizes risk to the patient and the institution. (Required proficiency)
  • Demonstrates competency in care and decision making for this designated patient population, and selected psychomotor skills. (Required proficiency)
  • Demonstrates self-directed learning by attending in-services to evaluate new products from appropriate vendors, current trends, and research. Demonstrates an awareness of self-responsibility for own professional practice. (Required proficiency)
  • Demonstrates knowledge of the Kansas State Nurse Practice Act and follows the statutes and regulations therein. Possesses sound knowledge of nursing principles, procedures, and standards of practice as determined by Kansas Nurse Practice Act and Federal regulations. (Required proficiency)
  • Demonstrates effective communication methods and skills, utilizing appropriate reporting structures. Excellent customer service skills and outgoing pleasant demeanor. (Required proficiency)


Licenses and Certifications

  • Registered Nurse - KSBN A multistate license with the ability to practice within the State of Kansas is also accepted. Required
  • Basic Life Support - BLS Must have within 90 days of hire.
  • RQI, CPR or ACLS certifications may be required in lieu of or in addition to BLS depending on department.
  • Certification in related field (e.g., WOCN, CWCN, COCN, CCCN, CWON, WCC, CWS, CWCA, WTA) Preferred
