BWXT is currently seeking a Computational Research Engineering Intern Structures for its Advanced Technologies location in Lynchburg, Virginia!

As a Summer Computational Research Engineering Intern, you will have the opportunity to gain hands-on experience in a dynamic and collaborative environment. You will work closely with our engineering team to support the design, development, and testing of computational structural mechanics software. This internship is designed to provide you with valuable industry knowledge and practical skills that will enhance your career in mechanical engineering.
This position is an in-person position located in Lynchburg, Virginia. Housing stipend is available for eligible interns.
Job Duties / Responsibilities:
- Assist in the design and development of Python libraries for ASME applications with Ansys and ParaView.
- Assist in the development and testing of new features into a MOOSE based structural mechanic’s code.
- Develop and document test cases to support the verification of MOOSE based structural mechanic’s code.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure project success.
- Prepare technical reports and documentation.
- Participate in team meetings and contribute to project discussions.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Duration: 10-12 weeks (Summer 2025)
Job Qualifications / Requirements:
- Currently pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
- Strong understanding of structural finite elements and finite element software.
- Proficiency in programming, with a preference for Python and C++ languages.
- Experience with Ansys APDL/Mechanical and Cubit/MOOSE/ParaView a plus.
