At Personalis, we are transforming the active management of cancer through breakthrough personalized testing. We aim to drive a new paradigm for cancer management, guiding care from biopsy through the life of the patient. Our highly sensitive assays combine tumor-and-normal profiling with proprietary algorithms to deliver advanced insights even as cancer evolves over time. Our products are designed to detect minimal residual disease (MRD) and recurrence at the earliest timepoints, enable selection of targeted therapies based on ultra-comprehensive genomic profiling, and enhance biomarker strategy for drug development. Personalis is based in Fremont, California.

The Director of Technical Accounting & SEC Reporting is a critical position for Personalis as a NASDAQ publicly traded company, to ensure the Company is compliant with financial reporting requirements for SEC compliance and all technical accounting aspects, including revenue recognition.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead, direct, and manage the Company's corporate accounting function including SEC and external reporting, technical accounting, revenue accounting and oversight of financial policies. Leading and directing all accounting aspects in accordance with US GAAP.
  • Responsible for the financial reporting cycle that includes implementing close calendars, defining the overall process, and ensuring deadlines are met for overall compliance. Work closely with the Corporate Accounting team to ensure seamless processes for monthly and quarterly closes. Oversight to ensure transactions are recorded within the proper periods.
  • Responsible for SEC reporting which includes preparation of the document using computer-based tools, web-based tools, or external service providers of printing services. Ensure the Company's close and external financial reporting cycle meets compliance for the appropriate SEC deadlines.
  • Responsible for the Company's technical and complex accounting positions, preparation of technical memos, and ensuring accuracy of the computations and calculations. This also includes oversight of revenue contracts and revenue recognition according to ASC606, reserves requiring judgment or estimates, warrant, derivative, and fair value measurement accounting, goodwill and intangible valuations and periodic assessments, equity accounting, and other complex or non-routine transactions.
  • Responsible for managing the external auditors and audit process for quarterly reviews and annual audits. Ensure the PBC schedules conform to formats and content required by Big 4 firms.
  • Review tax provision support to ensure accuracy. Responsible for accuracy of deferred asset/liability accounts. Prepare, review, and edit income tax disclosures for SEC filings.
  • Responsible for defining, review of, and enhancing finance and accounting policies to ensure a solid framework exists. Update policies as required an on a regular basis, and at a minimum, review policies annually.
  • Responsible for establishing internal control framework for an emerging growth company and work towards meeting the requirements of Sarbanes Oxley compliance. Work with Internal Audit or external service provider to ensure compliance with internal controls. Ensure that required actions plans are defined and implemented in a timely manner to minimize the level of deficiencies.
  • Partner with executive leadership team for the function to provide cohesive direction towards company goals.
  • Help develop and establish broader company strategy and translate into multi-functional objectives.
  • Model and promote Personalis values throughout the Company. 
  • Other projects, and tasks as the Company grows and evolves over time.

Required Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or equivalent with a minimum of 8 years experience
  • Prior experience working for a Big 4 Accounting firm is a plus
  • Prior technical accounting and SEC Reporting in a public company is a plus.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, effective presentation and written/oral communications skills.
  • Ability to lead, direct, manage an accounting organization.
  • Ability to interact with all levels in a public company, including the Audit Committee.
  • Proven track record of developing others and fostering high performance team work.

Preferred Education and Experience

  • CPA
  • Big 4 Accounting experience 

 

The hiring range for this position is $190,000 to $240,000 per year, which may factor in various geographic regions. The base pay actually offered will take into account internal equity and also may vary depending on the candidate’s geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors.
