Job Summary
The Crew Leader provides lead worker assistance and direction for a medium to large crew or to a number of medium to large multi-disciplined crews which may include performing difficult and complex tasks for various maintenance works throughout the City of Dallas. Leads, supports, coordinates, and directs crews in the performance of various tasks, supports maintenance operations, and routine to unique repair projects.

Overview
The Crew Leader serves as a lead for a crew of workers and provides training for crews in construction, sanitation, facilities, parks and recreational centers, water management departments, aviation, and other City of Dallas infrastructure, supporting large or complex projects, coordinating assignments, reports, equipment, and inventory.
Essential Functions
1. Organizes, prepares, and issues daily work assignments for crewmembers or other workers; ensures work procedures are followed safely and efficiently and work is completed properly.
2. Works, engages, and collaborates with crewmembers; sets the pace of work and delegates appropriate assignments; provides on-site job and safety training and explains or demonstrates proper, safe, and efficient work methods; obtains required information or decisions from supervisors as needed.
3. Ensures all plans, materials, tools, and supplies are available for crewmembers; keeps, maintains, organizes and reports records of expenses, work orders, schedules, and attendance of daily activities.
4. Performs and/or leads preventative maintenance and minor repairs to equipment; checks for cleanliness and readiness of tools and equipment.
5. Assigns clean-up activities, maintenance work, and general activities around the work sites, facilities, and buildings to ensure premises are clean and safe.
6. Drives City trucks to transport workers, materials, and equipment to and from jobsite.
7. Handles citizen complaints or concerns to facilitate prompt and efficient solutions; interacts with community and residents to provide excellent customer service, educate on tree benefits, parking regulations, emergency situations, updates them on lawn and tree maintenance, responds to concerns, and provides other relevant information in a prompt, timely, and efficient manner.
8. Supports City of Dallas in emergency situations, serves as an on-call response member for storm events to keep rights-of-way and parking lots open, and remove storm damage debris from the city buildings, vehicles, and other amenities on public property.
9. Performs other related work as needed or assigned.
Knowledge and Skills
Knowledge of principles and practices of safety procedures, including OSHA and other safety regulations.
Knowledge of City policies and procedures.
Knowledge of specialized equipment operation and capabilities.
Knowledge of crew(s)’ daily capacity and ability to utilize tools available efficiently.
Ability to control speed and direction of moderately complex motorized equipment.
Knowledge of and ability to maneuver numerous types of equipment and perform labor for extended periods, often under adverse climatic conditions.
Ability to follow verbal and written instructions, read charts, and maintain written records.
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with constant awareness and attention to detail of safety guidelines.
Knowledge of operations, research, and resource planning and ability to facilitate success of crews performing work throughout the City.
Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing, keep written records, place orders, and prepare reports.
Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships.
Skill to lead and manage personnel.
