Assistant Professor in Experimental Atomic, Molecular, and Optical (AMO) Physics

Description

The Department of Physics at Oklahoma State University invites applications for a tenure track assistant professor position in experimental atomic, molecular, and optical (AMO) physics. We encourage candidates with a proven track record of research in trapped ions, quantum sensing, ultracold quantum gases, quantum information science (QIS), or quantum optics to apply. We especially encourage applications from candidates who can form collaborations with the department’s AMO and condensed matter physics groups, all of which have significant research emphasis on QIS. The successful candidate is expected to attract extramural research funding, publish scholarly articles, and teach effectively at the graduate and undergraduate levels.

In addition to AMO physics, the physics department has strong research programs in biological physics, condensed matter physics, high energy physics, and radiation physics. The Department of Physics is part of the College of Arts and Sciences, OSU’s largest and most diverse college, which is home to 24 academic departments with vibrant programs in the arts, humanities, social sciences, mathematics, and natural sciences.

Qualifications

A Ph.D. in Physics or a closely related field is required, as well as the promise of excellence in teaching and the ability to mentor students from all populations.

An appointment at the Assistant Professor level is expected with a start date of August 1, 2024. Candidates should submit a curriculum vitae, a list of publications, brief statements of research plans and teaching plans, a cover letter, and arrange for three letters of recommendation. Candidates should address their perspectives on furthering the understanding of, and interest in, the challenges faced by all populations in their statement of research and teaching.
