Job Summary
The experienced MRI Tech arranges patients for Magnetic resonance examinations. Produces MR images to aid in the diagnosis of medical problems. MRI technologist monitors and ensures safety of patient and all personnel prior to entering magnetic area. Performs patient screening by using established protocols for any ferrous materials and medical device history and for safe administration of contrast media. Uses pre-established imaging protocols and departmental policy to perform safe operation of imaging equipment and all functions of the job. Provides complete pre and post education to patients and family. Able to evaluate competency level of others as preceptor. Leads and directs the work of others. Reports to Supervisor or Manager
Job Requirements
- Minimum of 5 years
- Graduate of accredited Radiologic Technologist Program
American Registry of Radiologic Technologists, ARRT (R), Louisiana / Mississippi License, Basic Life Support, BLS - HCP, Magnetic Resonance Imaging, MR
Job Functions
- Clinical skills
- Exhibits working knowledge of all MRI equipment and procedures.
- Refers to physician's orders/chart for any special instructions that may be indicated.
- Routinely questions the patient before procedure to obtain patient history.
- Explains proceedure completely to facilitate cooperation and alleviate anxiety.
- Performs all procedures in an efficient and timely manner without comprimising quality or the mission statement.
- Coordinates MRI schedule with other areas to prevent patient waiting.
- Patient/General Safety
- Corrects and reports accidents, incidents and safety hazards.
- Uses PPE (personal protective equipment) when appropriate.
- Is aware of potential chemical hazards and how to acces MSDS information.
- Uses good body mechanics when moving patients.
- Adheres to infection control practices.
- Equipment Maintenance
- Reports all equipment problems to chief technologist and places service call through call center
- Documentation/Communication
- Complete Exam Data Entry fields on all exams
- Documents all pertinent information, i.e., patient history, tech initials,
- other duties as assigned
- Is available to work a rotating on-call schedule to ensure 24 hour coverage of the MRI Department
- Assist in other areas of the department as work load permits
- Keeps areas well stocked at all times
- Consistently performs 12 organizational Service Standards focused on Values, Service and Quality.
- Manages the schedule/call schedule of the MRI department
- Responsible for supplies
- Responsible for protocol management
- Manages equipment PM and repair
