Job Description:

Nebraska Game & Parks is seeking a physically driven and quality motivated individual to join our Operations and Construction crew. If you love working in the great outdoors and take pride in the work that that you do, then come work with our team to make our Nebraska Game and Parks better for everyone to enjoy. As a teammate you will get the opportunity to visit many of our beautiful State Recreation and Wildlife Management Areas, all while working on projects like constructing new facilities or repairing existing amenities.

We are looking to fill this permanent fulltime Maintenance Specialist II position with a person that is a skilled equipment operator and knows general construction practices. You will help lead our skilled craftsmen on projects that will consist of minor repair work, to large scale construction projects. Job duties will require physical manual labor with the use of both hand and power tools, along with the operation of light to heavy earth moving equipment.

JOB DUTIES:
• Assisting and lead a wide variety of construction activities including but not limited to moving dirt to construct roadway and camping pads for new campgrounds.
• Replacing or installing new concrete footing, walls, sidewalks or trails.
• Operate machinery, such as skid steers, wheel loaders, excavators, backhoes, forklifts, dump trucks, motor graders, dozers, semi-tractor trailers, and other equipment in the performance of assigned duties.
• Plan for and perform regular maintenance of equipment, tools, and machinery.
• Reads and interprets blueprints, layouts, specifications, and written instructions.
• Confers with supervisor concerning construction, alteration, maintenance, and repair projects.
• Able to work adjusted hours due to work load, adverse weather and emergencies.
• Assisting/leading winter operations such as snow and ice removal.

Requirements/Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications: Associates degree or equivalent vocational education in construction, HVAC, welding, or other maintenance/construction trade and one year of experience in building maintenance or a mechanical trade. Experience may substitute for the education on a year for year basis. OR An Associate degree or equivalent vocational education in HVAC and one year experience servicing/maintaining/repairing HVAC systems. Experience may substitute for the education requirement on a year for year basis.

Legal Requirements: Not applicable.

Valid driver’s license is required. A Class “A” CDL, with a tanker endorsement, License will be required within 90 days of hire. Associate degree or the equivalent of two years of vocational education in construction, industrial engineering, HVAC, welding, or other building trade. Experience in maintenance, a mechanical trade, or performing safety inspections, investigations or training may be substituted for education on a year-for-year basis as determined appropriate by the agency. Overnight travel will be required.


 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES: 

  • General knowledge of building construction and/or maintenance practices.
  • Ability to lead the work of others on construction projects and complete reports and required documentation.
  • Ability to read and comprehend blueprints to determine materials, personnel and equipment necessary to complete assigned work.
  • Ability to safely maintain and operate equipment, powered tools, and hand tools necessary for the construction or repair work assigned.
  • Skilled in the use of construction levels and lasers and how to layout earth moving projects, including how to set grade for and figure percent of slope for drainage and ADA projects.
  • Ability to perform manual labor, work in adverse weather conditions, tight spaces, climb ladders, conduct inspections, and identify safety hazards.
