The Counter Intrusion Mechanical Engineering team is responsible for design and support for our Sentry Tower product line. This team works on autonomous surveillance and deterrence systems serving the US domestically and our allies internationally.
ABOUT THE JOB
We are looking for a Mechanical Engineering Technician to join our rapidly growing team in Irvine, CA. In this role, you will be responsible for supporting mechanical design engineering in prototype builds, prototype testing, and root cause analysis. You will maintain R&D assets and engineering tooling, help build out shop space, and work with engineers to optimize work instructions, build methods, etc. This will require strong mechanical intuition, hands-on skills with shop tools like torque wrenches, calipers, digital multimeters, and possibly some CAD and report writing skills. If you are someone who enjoys building, fixing, and maintaining cutting edge robotic hardware then this role is for you.
WHAT YOU’LL DO
- Work with engineers to build engineering prototype assemblies.
- Provide manufacturability design feedback and lessons learned from proto builds
- Disassemble and investigate failed or broken hardware to find root-cause
- Carry out maintenance and repairs on engineering prototype systems
- Help deploy prototype hardware to field locations and work with operations teams to get it functional
- Miscellaneous engineering tasks as applicable - CAD design work, Part alternative sourcing, Prototype testing, etc.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Strong organization and communication skills
- Ability to multitask with little supervision
- Experience reading technical drawings and schematics
- Able to open and navigate assemblies with 3D CAD such as SolidWorks or NX
- 5+ years of intensive and detailed technical hands on experience with electronic or robotic assemblies;
- building, testing, troubleshooting.
- Basic computer skills (Word, Excel, email, etc.)
- Proficient with hand tools and basic power tools:
- Experience modifying metal and plastic parts as required (sanding, filing, drilling, cutting)
- Experience using various measuring tools (e.g. tape measure, caliper, micrometer, etc.)
- Experience assembling complex machines with torque wrenches, thread lockers, specialty fasteners, electronics, adhesives, lubricants, etc.
- Ability to be on your feet throughout the day, and to lift 30 lbs
- Eligible to obtain and maintain an active U.S. Secret security clearance
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Technical /Associates degree in related technical field
- Light electronics troubleshooting/ Soldering experience a plus
- Fabrication of small parts such as machined components, composite components
- Electro-Mechanical Assembly and QC testing
- Ability to design and modify parts and assemblies in SolidWorks and/or NX
- Proficient with machine tools: Bridgeport, Lathe, FDM Printing, etc.
- Eligible to obtain and maintain an active U.S. Secret security clearance
