DEPARMENT PREFERENCES

 

Preference given to experience in the inspection, maintenance and repair of elevators.

 

Two (2) years of specialized training or apprenticeship in elevator maintenance is preferred.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

 

Education/Training - Work requires an educational background normally equivalent to a high school education.

 

Experience - Work requires knowledge of electrical and mechanical systems normally acquired through at least 4 years of experience in a relevant trade. 

 

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations - Valid N.C. Driver's license and a driving history acceptable under the guidelines of the Safe Driving Policy.

Work Performed

 

Essential duties and responsibilities include the following: 

 

  • Participate in the maintenance, servicing, repair and troubleshooting of elevators and related machinery and equipment.  Assist in the installation of card readers and LiftNet on elevators; use LiftNet appropriately.
  • Assist in the preparation and maintenance of preventive maintenance schedules for elevators and related equipment; review deficiency reports and appropriate maintenance logs.
  • Assist the Coordinator, Elevator Maintenance & Repair as a liaison between Duke Health E&O and the NCDOL Elevator Inspectors; assist in the maintenance of records of DOL inspections and all updates mandated by State Elevator Code.
  • Assist in the coordination and oversight of all contractor work; responsible for contractor compliance with elevator and building codes.
  • Participate in the review of specifications for new construction and modification projects during planning and design.  Participate in coordination with E&O Project Coordinator, Elevator Consultant, Vendor, NC DOL, and IDS on elevator modernization. Participate in the review of elevator contracts before bid process and provide recommendations.  Inspect and ensure secure transition when new elevators come online.
  • Assist in the review, coding, and approval of invoices.
  • Participate in annual fire service testing with the E&O Communications Shop.
  • Respond to elevator entrapments as needed.
  • Participate in the Investigation of elevator and escalator injuries with OESO and DOL.

  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as schematic designs and building specifications, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.

  • Ability to communicate effectively and respond appropriately in emergency situations. 
  • Must respect the privacy of patients and maintain the confidentiality of any patient information related to their treatment.  Ability to complete daily records, logs, and time sheets.

  • The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. 
  • The employee is occasionally required to climb ladders to include step ladders, extension ladders, and vertical ladders attached to a wall or vertical structure. 
  • The employee will be required to climb or crawl into or out of small and difficult-to-access spaces relating to elevators and elevator shafts.
