Food Production Assistant - Full Time - Rotating Shifts - Cornell Hospital

The Food Production Assistant will be part of our healthcare facility cafe. In this role, you will support the preparation and delivery of high-quality meals to patients, staff, and visitors. You'll assist in food preparation, ensuring cleanliness and safety standards, and contributing to a positive dining experience.  In addition, assemble food items according to standard recipes and portion control guidelines, prepare fresh vegetables, salads, sandwiches, and other meal components.  Help with setting up food stations, serving areas, and ensure food is stocked and replenished.  Follow proper sanitation procedures for equipment, workstations, and food prep areas to meet health and safety standards.  Provide excellent service while assisting with food orders, serving, and answering any questions about menu options. 

This is a full time position, requiring rotating shifts and every weekend/holiday coverage.

Preferred Criteria

• High school diploma or GED
• Food service or production assistance experience within a healthcare or café environment
• Familiarity with dietary restrictions or food allergies
• Ability to operate kitchen equipment such as food processor, oven, mixer.

Required Criteria

• Ability to read and write English in order to pull ingredients on standardized recipes
• Ability to repeatedly transport large serving trays weighing up to 40 pounds through crowded areas
• Ability to comprehend and follow both oral and written instructions regarding food preparation and regulatory requirements
• Ability to safely operate commercial kitchen utensils and equipment and to comprehend written instructions regarding their use and maintenance
• Knowledge of food preparation techniques, safe knife handling and production skills
