Summary
The City of Roanoke Parks and Recreation Department is hiring two Seasonal Maintenance Workers to support the preparation and maintenance of athletic fields for youth and adult sports programs. Prepare and maintain athletic fields, including mowing, edging, dragging, lining, and equipment placement.
Ensure fields are safe, clean, and game-ready.
Knowledge of and ability to safely operate landscaping and maintenance equipment including zero-turn and walk-behind mowers, weed eaters, edgers, blowers, and field lining and grading equipment.
Inspect equipment for proper safety and ensure that truck is equipped with all necessary equipment for the day’s assignment.
Load/unload/spread materials including soil, sand, gravel, and clay.
Follows established safety procedures.
Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
QUALIFICATIONSTo perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
High school diploma or GED preferred.
Basic knowledge and 1-3 months experience in landscape and turf maintenance, athletic field maintenance, or related field; or an equivalent combination of training and experience preferred.
Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and perform physical labor in varying weather conditions.
Possession of a valid driver’s license issued by the Commonwealth of Virginia.
Ability to work nights and weekends as needed.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
This position has no supervisory responsibilities.
EDUCATION/CERTIFICATIONS
High school diploma or general education degree (GED) and a valid Virginia’s driver’s license.
