Position Summary:
Pioneering Medicines seeks a Drug Delivery Scientist with the pioneering spirit to champion the strategy, design, and evaluation of novel formulations of multiple therapeutic compounds. The position requires a proven track record working with complex drug delivery systems, with a strong emphasis on critical thinking, multitasking, and the ability to learn new techniques. The ideal candidate would have a strong understanding of the relationship between chemistry, formulation, and cellular uptake.
This candidate will be responsible for supporting cross functional teams working with multiple modalities including nucleic acid therapies and gene editing technologies. The successful candidate will focus on all aspects of development spanning experimentation, data analysis, presentation, and strategic planning.
Responsibilities:
- Development of novel non-viral formulations, including but not limited to lipid and polymeric nanoparticles (LNPs and PNPs), for nucleic acid cargo delivery in multiple disease applications
- Support and evaluate the exploration of next generation drug delivery modalities to support Pioneering Medicines portfolio
- Lead DoE-based screening campaigns directed toward discovering hits, optimizing composition, and/or optimizing matrix for maximized stability/scale-up
- Design studies and analyze results to study the impact of LNP composition on functional activity in vitro and in vivo
- Support sample generation efforts for in vitro and in vivo studies
- Develop and execute analytical methods to characterize RNA loaded formulations
- Interpret data to form sound conclusions and perform experimental troubleshooting on a routine basis
- Maintain accurate and complete laboratory notebook capturing protocols, results and observations in real-time
- Timely document and present data to key stakeholders
Minimum Qualifications:
- Degree in Pharmaceuticals Sciences, Bioengineering, Pharmaceutical Technologies, Chemical Engineering, or relevant scientific discipline
- BS with 8+ years industry experience, or Master with 6+ years of experience, or PhD with 0+ years of experience
- Experience in nucleic acid therapeutics and/or delivery is key
- Well versed with LNP manufacturing (experience in microfluidics preferred)
- Hands-on experience with analytical techniques, including but not limited to DLS (size, PDI and zeta potential measurements), Ribogreen assay (for nucleic acid encapsulation), etc. are preferred
- Experience with high throughput screening (HTS) for identification of optimized LNP compositions is a plus
