The Companion Animal Hospital Radiation Oncology service at the Cornell University Hospital for Animals (CUHA) has an immediate opening for a dedicated Licensed Radiation Therapist.
In this position, you will be part of a team of board-certified veterinary radiation and medical oncologists, licensed medical physicist, residents, veterinary students, and licensed veterinary technicians (LVT) that guide families through their pet’s cancer diagnosis and treatment, providing the best quality of life possible. The most satisfying part of our job is forming strong bonds with our patients and their families over the course of their treatment and follow- up visits.
This position will allow you to utilize your training and expertise to provide technical assistance for routine and complex cases that require radiation therapy, case workups, and procedures. Some examples include:
Deliver high energy therapeutic radiation to primarily dogs and cats in accordance with the prescription and instructions provided by the Radiation Oncologist utilizing a linear accelerator (Varian Edge, CBCT) and record system (Aria Oncology Information System).
Assist Anesthesia LVT in anesthetic induction/recovery, and monitoring of radiation patient side effects.
Education of clients regarding treatment, radiation reactions and post treatment care and follow-up.
Assume responsibility for compliance with university and regulatory policies and procedures.
Shape the future of veterinary care through practical instruction of diverse veterinary students and house officers (radiation and medical oncology residents).
Continuing education opportunities to stay current in new technology.
Assist with clinical trials to advance veterinary cancer care.
What qualifications are required?
AAS or AMA certified program, ARRT credential.
3-5 year’s experience in clinical therapeutic radiation therapy.
NYS Licensure required by time of appointment.
Comfortable working with animals – primarily, but not limited to, dogs and cats; previous experience is not required.
Demonstrate problem-solving skills and adaptability, and ability to respond to advancements in treatment technology.
Excellent communication skills and willingness to work in a busy, team-oriented clinical environment.
Interest in ongoing career growth and advanced skill development
The Cornell University Hospital for Animals provides 24-hour care for pets 365 days a year, but our radiation therapy treatments are performed Monday through Friday.
