This position will be located at Schriever Space Force Base, Colorado Springs, CO.
Position Overview:
The Command and Control, Battle Management, and Communications (C2BMC) program integrates the Missile Defense System. It is a vital operational system that enables the U.S. president, secretary of defense, and combatant commanders at strategic, regional, and operational levels to systematically plan ballistic missile defense operations, to see the battle develop collectively, and to dynamically manage designated networked sensors and weapons systems to achieve global and regional mission objectives. C2BMC supports a layered missile defense capability that enables an optimized response to threats of all ranges in all phases of flight. C2BMC is the force multiplier that globally and regionally networks integrate, synchronizing autonomous sensor and weapon systems and operations to optimize performance. C2BMC is integral to all system ground and flight tests, which verify and exercise all current and future missile defense system capabilities.
The C2BMC National Team Integration & Test Functional Area immediately needs a Test Engineer (Element Mission Engineer) to assist with the organization and participation in Flight and Ground Tests. The selected applicant will identify required resources, develop and understand mission objectives for the system(s) under test, develop data archival and analysis plans, and develop post-mission reports. Work as a Test Engineer in the Experimentation Lab.
The position is based near Colorado Springs at Schriever Space Force Base, but infrequent travel to customer sites (e.g., EUCOM, CENTCOM) and contractor sites (e.g., Huntsville) may be required. Non-standard work hours are highly likely during event execution.
Essential Functions:
- Integrate X-Lab prototypes into an MDA test by coordinating with project leads, understanding prototype involvement in the test, mapping the configuration in architecture, and briefing status before executing the test from the X-Lab
- Work with the customer to understand the test's needs and find ways to satisfy those needs within the resource constraints
- Responsible for maintaining the configuration management of a set of lab machines dedicated to specific development activities
- Responsible for configuration management and control of test resources, articles, and tools for data collection during the event
- Serve as the liaison to other C2BMC test participants and MDA/BCT test managers; coordinate with the project leads of various experiments to ensure seamless event execution across the entire mission
- Develop and maintain the test architecture that includes all articles under test and will also develop any supplemental procedures required to ensure successful execution
- Understand systems engineering, systems design, and development
- Possess 8 or more years of experience in a closely related environment, with good experience and expertise in systems-of-systems definition and integration
- Ability to analyze high-level needs and, through a structured and logical approach, refine the need into an integrated set of requirements that lead to a fielded product
- Ability to lead portions of the activity and direct the activities of fellow engineers
- Communicate effectively and clearly present technical approaches and findings
- Able to write and implement engineering plans within a project
- Previous experience should demonstrate the technical skills and position responsibilities cited here
