Position Specific Summary

The Application Systems Integrator position at the City of Tucson’s Information Technology (IT) Department designs, develops, and programs systems operations for the project and program management of computer resolutions for business problems. Facilitates product installation and configuration, seamless integration, efficient data management, system and data integrity, and application maintenance. Aligning technology with organizational objectives, the Systems Analysts ensures the security, reliability and optimal performance of application systems while prioritizing data security and supporting key business functions.

Work is performed under the supervision of the IT Manager. This position does not supervise.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Designs and integrates architecture solutions based on business requirements. Develops requirements for system integrations and other programmatic solutions required. Evaluates and selects the appropriate tools and technologies for the specific need that aligns with organization standards. Develops, implements, and maintains integration solutions using organizationally approved and supported programming languages. Develops and maintains custom connectors and middleware to facilitate data exchange between systems. 

  • Analyzes business processes by working closely with stakeholders throughout the organization to understand and develop business requirements by breaking down complex business needs into detailed and manageable system requirements. Conducts thorough investigations to identify the root causes of system issues and implements corrective actions to address underlying problems. Assesses the potential impact of proposed changes or solutions on existing systems. Evaluates the consequences of system modifications on related processes and stakeholders. 

  • Configures and maintains security settings within the application via role and user-based security models based on business need. Ensures adherence to access controls per department guidelines and AD’s. Conducts security testing of proposed system changes impacting business processes and functional roles. Implements and maintains secure configuration management practices. Enforces and adheres to established Governance models and department polices and guidelines.  Applies enhancements/upgrades to application systems. Coordinates and participates in the installation and upgrade of other necessary system components in collaboration with other ITD resources. Enables new system functionality to enhance business processes.  Proactively identifies and addresses issues related to application performance including system integrations. Implements monitoring tools and procedures to track application system and integrations performance. Optimizes system configurations and processes for efficiency. 

  • Reviews and prioritizes incoming service incidents and requests based on urgency and impact. Classifies tickets into appropriate categories for efficient resolution. Collaborates with relevant teams or individuals to resolve complex problems. 

  • Designs, prepares, and executes test plans to validate system changes. Conducts unit testing to ensure correctness of individual components, integration testing to validate end-to-end system functionality, and regression testing to confirm proposed changes don’t result in unintended impacts for areas that should remain unchanged. Identifies and troubleshoots issues during the testing phases. 

  • Creates and maintains comprehensive documentation for the sustained operations of application systems including application architecture, system configurations, integrations and integration architecture, requirements specifications, workflows, application security configuration and measures. Maintains knowledge base with solutions to common issues for reference. Ensures business partner and vendor point of contact have access to relevant documentation.

  • Remains up to date on industry trends, emerging technologies, best practices related to systems analysis, applications development and support. Incorporates new initiatives into departmental strategies and practices. 

  • Performs all other duties and tasks as assigned. Performs other related projects or assignments as assigned or requested
