Pay Range
$132,570 - $196,428 Annually
$132,570 - $162,324 Annually for the 390.1 Level
$160,410 - $196,428 Annually for the 390.2 Level
This is the lowest to highest salary in good faith we would pay for this role at the time of this posting. Pay will not be below any applicable local minimum wage. Job Description
We have an opening for a Technical Supervisor or Senior Technical Supervisor. This position will have both programmatic responsibilities and administrative supervision within the Defense Technologies Engineering Division (DTED), part of the Engineering Directorate, supporting the Weapon Technologies and Engineering (WTE) Program.
The primary responsibility of this role will be to support the B191 High Explosive Application Facility (HEAF). As the Technical Supervisor/Senior Technical Supervisor, you will oversee a diverse team of technologists engaged in research and development activities. Specifically, you will supervise staff supporting the Initiation System Group (ISG), the Mechanical Properties of Explosive (MPX) Group, and the Detonator Surveillance Program (DSP).This position will be filled at either level based on knowledge and related experience as assessed by the hiring team. Additional job responsibilities (outlined below) will be assigned if hired at the higher level.
This position requires full-time on-site presence due to the nature of the work.
In this role you will
- Lead and provide technical oversight and direct administrative supervision for technical staff supporting ISG, MPX, and DSP activities, including work planning, setting priorities, designating daily work assignments, as well as personnel actions and administration of policies and procedures.
- Provide technical leadership and oversee the shot schedule for ISG experimental and prototyping facilities, including the C-Tank, 100g Tank, HELIOS, and the Lamination Lab.
- Perform personnel related functions, including recruiting, hiring, and retention activities, performance evaluation and alignment, salary management, influencing the work environment to foster staff development, employee morale, and well-being, and making recommendations on promotion and disciplinary actions for group members.
- Provide technical leadership of engineering fabrication, assembly, and testing processes to ensure quality and adherence to engineering standards, as well as safety and security
- Collaborate with the technical staff to define functional requirements, solve complex technical and resource problems, and evaluate alternative design concepts consistent with schedule, cost, and material limitations.
- Assist in the development of yearly cost/collection estimates for the work center and provide budgetary oversight of work center activities.
- Participate in planning, decision making, and change processes, including modifying guidelines, techniques, and procedures.
- Interact and maintain close working relationships with group leaders and program management to provide technical support for and to ensure timely and cost-effective execution of supportive engineering services.
- Develop, prepare, present, and participate in required design reviews, reports, procedures, and other communications in support of technical and administrative assignments.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

- Provide highly advanced technical and related administrative support, expertise, guidance, and advice in the areas of applied engineering technology, including planning, design, fabrication, project support, testing, and evaluation where the qualitative and quantitative complexity of the project assignments demand original and innovative problem solutions.
- Utilize a high degree of independent discretion and judgment in making frequent complex decisions, and in providing direction to technical staff.
