ROLE OVERVIEW
As solar moves to be the largest source of energy in the decades to come, an increasing priority for Pivot Energy and the solar industry is ensuring that all communities can access solar energy in ways that deliver additional benefits to their communities. Pivot aims to be a leader in responsible solar development, which includes thoughtful community engagement and a commitment to community investment.
This role will support our community engagement strategy and lead the developed execution plan in key states for Pivot. In addition to community engagement, this role will support our community impact strategy to bring benefits to places we develop. This role will operate within the Project Development Strategy team at Pivot, ensuring that Pivot Energy is an innovator in the field, and is delivering meaningful positive social and environmental impacts to the communities we operate in. 
Areas of focus will include: executing community engagement best practices across the company; developing community partnerships and community investment campaigns; support internal business development teams to bid, win, and develop socially impactful projects.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Community Engagement and Investment Strategy and Execution: 
  • Develop and lead local support campaigns, including developing and executing strategies for identifying local solar energy supporters, activating those individuals to engage locally, building relationships with the project community with the local media, articulating compelling key messages about our projects, and maintaining a positive presence for Pivot Energy in the communities where we work. 
  • Working to support our project development team, execute on community engagement best practices for a company of our operating size and distributed footprint.
  • Engage in community listening sessions to proactively assess community landscape and how our investment commitment can best support community goals.
  • Identify, develop, and build strategic partnerships with nonprofits, community organizations, and local governments in Pivot’s core and emerging markets.
  • Track community partnerships to ensure consistent levels of engagement.
  • Process community investment donations, and track the impact of the investments. Work with local governments as needed to help educate them about the benefits of community solar. Represent Pivot externally in community-focused engagement meetings, demonstrating Pivot’s core values, and identifying emerging trends back to the project development teams.
  • Other responsibilities that may be necessary for a rapidly growing company committed to social impact.

  • Project Development Support: 
  • Work with the Project Development teams to design bidding strategies, partnerships, and project models for community-supported projects as defined by the relevant political/utility entities, yielding project awards for community and commercial solar projects. 
  • Analyze and potentially implement community-based partnerships for certain markets or projects.

  • Community Donation Management:
  • Identify community partners to invest in, and manage the donation process from start to finish in our Salesforce Community Donation Portal. 
  • Track and manage between 20 - 50 donations per year in the assigned region.

REQUIRED COMPETENCIES

  • Authentic respect for, and connection to, rural communities, with an ability to communicate to key rural stakeholders.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience working in public affairs, public relations, communications, community organizing, or campaign management. Deep commitment to values-driven relational work; with a commitment to growing and evolving and incorporating feedback.
  • Demonstrated ability to connect with a wide range of constituents in diverse communities. Specifically, passion for engaging with different types of people in rural parts of the U.S., including local elected officials, community leaders, and members of the public.
  • Strong public speaking skills, and deep listening skills. 
  • Experience developing and managing partnerships.
  • Operational aptitude. Orientation to high operational and administrative excellence, as the job will require donation management work of processing community donations and tracking impact. (Experience working in philanthropy or in the non-profit space in a development scope is a plus) 
  • Ability to manage multiple projects at once, with strong project management abilities. 
  • Demonstrated leadership skills, with the ability to flex towards strategy and then execution.
