Our Nutrition R&D Division is currently hiring for an Associate Scientist I in our Physical Stability Lab. This position works onsite at our Columbus, OH location.

This opportunity is for an entry level or early career scientist with interest in macronutrient and mineral testing in food/food products. You are responsible for physical stability testing of infant, adult, and medical nutritional products, assuring quality standards are met. The primary functions of this position are performance of analytical testing on ingredients and finished product as prescribed in various procedures under the guidance of a lab supervisor or test method expert. This position requires producing the highest quality results while operating within the constraints of safety and laboratory policies. Potential opportunity to assist with method development, investigations, and validation projects.

What You’ll Do

  • Perform routine physical property testing on research and commercial nutritional samples (liquid and powder) to assess product quality during shelf life.
  • Work with multiple experimental methods and various instrumentation to assess physical stability properties of products, ingredients, etc.
  • Maintain good laboratory practices.
  • Perform accurate and precise testing according to laboratory methods.
  • Responsible for keeping up to date with sample due dates and sample backlogs.
  • Operate various types of analytical instrumentation, including maintenance and troubleshooting.
  • Conduct investigations into method deviations and atypical results.
  • Ensure compliance, overall data integrity, and adherence to SOP’s, safety, and in-house regulations.

Education and Experience

  • B.S. in STEM or related field required OR equivalent experience
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office suite
  • Experience with Sample Manager (LIMS), LabX, or other lab data systems
  • Experience with rheology, particle size, food science, dairy science, protein chemistry, emulsions, and design of experiments (DOE) is an advantage.
  • Ability to work well with others by sharing laboratory equipment and space.
  • Ability to work well in teams by collaborating on projects.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and orderly work environment.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong drive for results.
  • Understanding of good laboratory documentat
