About the role

Summary

We are seeking an individual who is highly skilled and experienced in design and operation of filling and packaging equipment.  This role will work closely with the filling and packaging equipment vendors during the specification, design, installation and start-up of the filling and packaging operations at our new greenfield site in Rome, NY. This role requires a deep mechanical understanding of filling and packaging equipment.  Experience in filling and packaging of dairy products is preferred.  The role will work in partnership with the Capital Project Manager responsible for the filling and packaging area of the new facility. Principal Engineer is a comparable grade level to Director of Engineering, however is an individual contributor role and does not have any direct reports.

Responsibilities

  • Equipment Design and Development: Lead equipment specification and design of filling and packaging equipment ensuring equipment design is robust and reliable to operate with a high level of OEE performance.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with other departments, including Capital project managers, operations, and maintenance, to ensure seamless integration of equipment engineering solutions.
  • Risk Management: Identify and mitigate potential risks associated with equipment engineering projects, ensuring safety and reliability.
  • Documentation: Maintain accurate and detailed documentation of process designs, specifications, and project progress.
  • Stakeholder Communication: Communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders, including clients, contractors, and regulatory bodies.
  • Travel: Occasional travel to equipment vendors and other Chobani sites
     

Requirements

  • Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Packaging Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
  • Experience: Minimum of 10 years of experience specification, installation, and operations of filling and packaging equipment, preferably in dairy industry.
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in process simulation software, CAD tools, and other relevant engineering applications.
  • Certifications: Professional Engineering (PE) license or equivalent certification is an advantage.
  • Problem-Solving: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to develop innovative solutions to technical challenges.
  • Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex technical concepts to diverse audiences.
  • Leadership: Demonstrated leadership capabilities, including team management, mentorship, and conflict resolution.
  • Attention to Detail: High level of attention to detail and accuracy in all aspects of work.
  • Adaptability: Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced and dynamic environment, managing multiple priorities simultaneously.
