LaBella Associates works with clients to provide project management and engineering services related to the execution of large-scale capital hydropower projects. We are integrated into the client’s project team and work directly with them throughout the duration of their projects. We develop scope requirements during the initiation phase, establish technical solutions during the planning phase, and oversee bidding, construction and installation during the execution phase. We also ensure compliance of the deliverables during the monitoring & controlling phase, and formally complete the project when it is commissioned and in service.
LaBella is seeking candidates who are energetic, highly motivated, and self-driven to join our team as an Assistant Project Manager to work directly with Lead Project Managers to facilitate these projects in the hydropower and dam safety industry!

Candidates shall:
- Be willing and eager to learn new project management practices, both based on international guidelines (from the PMI) and unique to various clients’ requirements.
- Expect to be engaged in project activities associated with civil infrastructure, electrical systems, mechanical equipment, and operational control schemes.
- Demonstrate ability to take on multiple new tasks in a fast-paced atmosphere.
- Be detail orientated and be able to demonstrate skills related to organization, task prioritization, and professional discipline.
- Be able to work independently and complete tasks with limited ongoing direction.
- Be able to thrive in varying and flexible work environments in remote, office, and field locations.
Duties
- Review and interpret technical specifications and documents for multiple engineering disciplines including but not limited to civil, structural, mechanical, electrical, and environmental.
- Develop schedules that outline all project tasks, deliverables, and deadlines.
- Generate bottom-up project budgets and estimates from project initiation to close out.
- Assist with the development of Request for Proposals (RFP’s) that will be used in a competitive bidding process to procure engineering and construction contractors. This work will include crafting a description of all scopes of work, contractor responsibilities, and owner quality requirements during project execution.
- Review of contractor’s submittals for adherence to the technical specifications.
- Manage and track submittal process by developing and updating a project submittal tracking log, and handling the distribution of submittals to stakeholders, etc.
- Develop bid tabulation and pricing sheets used for the competitive bid process.
- Organize and assemble project related information for permit applications to local, state, and federal agencies.
- Coordinate construction activities and related project work in the field.
- Perform as-found condition assessments of hydropower related infrastructure including dams, penstocks, gates/valves, etc. under the guidance of a Lead Project Manager or client representative.
- Assist the Lead Project Manager with any/all tasks including facilitating meetings and facilitating communication within internal and external project teams.
- Communicate effectively both formally and informally in all typical platforms (in person, written, email, phone, video conference).
- Coordinate document filing on client drives/software according to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and Quality requirements.
- Demonstrate leadership capabilities and ability to work in a collaborative team environment.
- Conduct administrative duties such as setting up meetings, drafting invoices and managing meeting minutes.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Project Manager in an orderly and efficient manner.
Requirements
- Recent graduate with a bachelor’s degree from an ABET accredited Engineering program (Civil, Environmental, Mechanical, Electrical, or related).
- 0 to 3 years of qualifying experience.
- Technical writing skills related to field investigation/inspection reporting, document development, and emails.
- Ability to develop, maintain, and format Microsoft Excel spreadsheets.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Project is favorable, but not required. <
