Description:

GENERAL SUMMARY AND PURPOSE:

Monitors and mentors the personnel responsible for storing, preparing, cooking, and serving food for visitors and hospital staff.  Positively impacts staff morale. Performs a variety of tasks that include both production and front of the house activities.  Ensures that safe food handling practices, sanitation and organization standards are being met.  Some cash handling/control responsibilities.  Needs to make certain that food quality, customer service and cleanliness is to highest standards with minimal supervision.

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred
  • Knowledge and skills to perform the required cooking methods (e.g. baking, broiling, roasting, steaming) equivalent to two years professional cooking experience
  • Two years of experience in restaurant cooking preferred
  • Must be Serv-Safe or comparably certified in HACCP processes, or become certified within 90 days of hire date
  • Some food service supervisory experience, preferred
  • Purchasing and inventory experience preferred
  • 1-2 years of experience in customer service, food service experience is preferred such as catering, hospitality or retail food sales
  • Barista experience preferred
  • 1 year of cashier experience, required

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Know, understand, incorporate, and demonstrate the Organizational Health Mission, Core Values, and Vision in behaviors, practices, policies and decisions
  • Ensure Idaho State Food Service UNICODE and HACCP standards are followed
  • Provide access to cash from the safe to retail employees
  • Able to reconcile individual daily cash deposits
  • Provide for staffing coverage due to call-ins and short staffing situations
  • Transport deposits to the appropriate department as needed
  • Responsible for maintaining an acceptable cash variance at all times
  • Assist in inventory and product ordering as trained and directed
  • Responsible for completion of tasks assigned to employees in their direct area or shift of responsibility
  • Ability to operate any equipment used in food preparation
  • Must be able to disassemble and reassemble all kitchen equipment to be cleaned
  • Fluent knife skills
  • Strong customer service and excellent verbal communication skills
  • On the job training of Halo point of sale system
  • Able to count change accurately
  • Knowledge of reconciliation of deposits preferred
  • Serves food items, stocks in the retail setting and operates the Halo system
  • Able to operate, including, dismantling and cleaning of all equipment relevant to specific   work area.
  • Demonstrate the ability to maintain a neat, clean and organized work area, as well as demonstrate a working knowledge of basic safe food handling practices.
  • Works with minimal supervision.
  • Supervises production and front of the house staff and processes in day to day activities.
