JOB DUTIES:
As a Geodetic Survey Technician, you will assist a survey party engaged in all aspects of geodetics, preliminary, and photogrammetric survey activities. This position is needed to complete a crew of three people. This team is needed to utilize the equipment and staff best to complete the assigned job duties and workload to produce a useful and accurate product for the program in an efficient and timely manner.
- Research and locate existing survey marks; do reconnaissance and set new marks for global positioning system (GPS) surveys.
- Operate instruments used in geodetic surveys such as levels, robotic total stations, and GPS receivers.
- Download survey data into computers and check field notes for accuracy.
- Set control for aerial photography by setting targets over existing control points.
- Perform conventional and RTK surveys to obtain existing alignment of highways and railroads.
- Preliminary surveys for DTM, profile, cross sections, hydraulic, and utility surveys.
- Coordinate and perform surveys with other Divisions, Districts, Cities, Counties, utility companies, and public entities.
- Train co-workers in the operation of GPS equipment, operating digital levels and level rods, using prism poles and reflectors, and the use of survey hardware/software programs.
- Convert between horizontal and vertical datums using corpscon and vertcon programs.
- Check field data to ensure the survey meets closure specifications.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements/Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications: Post-high school coursework, training, or experience in civil surveying or in global position system practices.
Preferred Qualifications: Experience with GPS systems, geodetic and preliminary survey procedures, and the state plane coordinate system.
Other:
- Must have a valid driver’s license or ability to provide independent authorized transportation.
- 50% overnight travel.
KNOWLEDGE / SKILLS / ABILITIES:
Knowledge of Trimble Business Center, basic computer skills, and ability to lift 80 pounds, climb, bend, stoop, and work long hours in extreme conditions.
