Job Summary/Basic Function:
This position is responsible for assessing and aligning people-focused initiatives with the Foundation’s vision, mission, and core values. Focused on enhancing the employee experience, this position develops and implements strategies that support employee development, engagement, and overall performance. This position is also responsible for creating and implementing strategies emphasizing quality, productivity, and standards designed to attract, develop, motivate, and retain high-performing and engaged employees. Working across all levels of the organization, this role provides guidance on employee relations, internal policy development, and process improvements to drive engagement and operational excellence. With a high degree of independent discretion, they will support initiatives that attract, develop, and retain top talent while fostering a positive and high-performing work environment.
Department Overview:
A nonprofit Idaho organization, the Boise State University Foundation was established in 1964 for the benefit of Boise State University. We work to secure philanthropic support for the university by developing and nurturing relationships with our alumni and friends and stewarding gifts made to support Boise State. The Foundation works closely with university leadership, the Boise State University Alumni Association, and the Bronco Athletic Association.
Mission: To build a greater Boise State University, we provide fundraising leadership and service across the university and partner with donors and alumni to inspire private support.

Level Scope:
Recognized subject matter expert who knows how to apply theory and put it into practice with in-depth understanding of the professional field with limited oversight from managers. Independently performs the full range of responsibilities within the function; requires deep job knowledge of areas typically obtained through higher education combined with experience. Manages large projects or processes and problems faced are difficult and often complex; analyzes problems/issues of diverse scope and determines solutions. May manage programs that include formulating strategies and administering policies, processes, and resources; functions with a high degree of autonomy. Influences others regarding policies, practices and procedures.
Essential Functions:
60% of the time the Director Foundation Human Resources:
- Design and manage a recruitment plan to build a strong candidate pipeline, create and manage projects in recruitment platforms (e.g., LinkedIn Recruiter) for active searches, and develop targeted strategies and messaging to attract and engage top talent.
- Make recommendations regarding hiring, performance evaluations, employee recognition, promotions, and disciplinary actions.
- Develop and implement onboarding strategies and programming by leveraging creative solutions and resources to enable a smooth transition from candidate to employee. Identify opportunities and techniques to engage new employees through a division orientation program that will provide practical information and reinforce the Foundation’s mission and values; setting them up for success in their role.
- Collaborates with division leadership and the university’s Human Resource Services for the review of division job descriptions, equitable salary structure, and leveraging of internal and external talents to address possible talent gaps in the division.
- Work with the Foundation’s Chief Executive Officer and program leaders to design and implement succession planning and career development programs/training to attract, inspire, engage, and retain talent.
- Develop, direct, and monitor strategies aimed at maintaining a healthy workplace culture including strategies, programs, and initiatives related to employee communications, engagement, and relations across and inclusive of all of the Foundation’s programs and offices.
- Proactively drive effective employee communications around employee workloads, accountabilities, and performance measures in partnership with the leadership team.
- Provide leadership and support in designing progressive people, cultural, and organizational strategies and solutions that result in engaged employees and highly successful managers and leaders.
35% of the time the Director Foundation Human Resources:
- Work with program leaders to periodically review and update existing performance metrics of employees to ensure performance metrics are aligned with the organizational goals and objectives
