Technical ManagerPosition Overview
Shaw Industries is looking for a Technical Manager to provide technical leadership and support for Plant HW. Areas of focus include, but are not limited to new product development, new process start-up, process improvement, raw material management and evaluation, and quality improvement. Based on experience, this position could be filled as a Technical Manager I or Technical Manager II.
Responsibilities:
- Innovation of new products and platforms utilizing customer input and/or research on product value, produced at or below cost.
- Lead efforts to ensure that the products being developed meet all global safety, environmental, and other regulatory requirements and industry standards, as well as requirements for necessary product certifications by outside entities.
- Coordinate with business partners (Quality, Manufacturing, Safety, R&D, Marketing, Sourcing, Category, Sustainability, etc.) to determine performance requirements, compliance, and target costing for new products.
- Research and develop new technologies and equipment that can be applied to the process to further optimize the performance and manufacturing of engineered wood products.
- Design and coordinate lab studies, pilot trials, and production trials (XRs, MTRs, and TPRs) to develop appropriate design and process settings that will achieve performance and costing goals for new products. Lead the development process from inception to product release with proactive and targeted communication to business partners.
- Collaborate with manufacturing groups to negotiate priorities and ensure that trials are run efficiently and with minimal impact on scheduled production orders.
- Refine processes and production parameters by providing technical direction for all manufacturing steps that impact finished product. Adapt these as necessary for new products, new technology, and new materials.
- Assist in installation and startup of new equipment, as needed.
- Provide technical support for hardwood manufacturing when troubleshooting quality, process, safety, and environmental issues.
- Maintain current knowledge of technical developments in product performance, materials of construction, and standards in engineered hardwood.
- Provide coaching and development for Plant HW staff related to technical focus areas.
- Work with business partners to standardize methods and improvements.
- Communicate technical data/concepts to applicable production staff.
- Work with production leadership to manage and continually improve the performance of skilled hourly positions.
- Report project status to management on a regular basis.
This position is responsible for the technical maintenance of the color room: accurate inventory of color standards, optimized room condition for best color matching, work order entry for maintenance needs, new technologies, training standards and requirement for new color techs, etc.
The Technical Manager will also manage the day-to-day activities and strategic scope of the Color Tech Specialist.
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree required
- 5+ years of manufacturing, innovation, business, technical, engineering, or equivalent experience
- Engineered wood experience preferred.
- Ability to travel (primarily domestically) - 15%
