What You’ll Do

The Systems Architect Lab (SAL) is developing innovative technology focusing on addressing two of the key challenges facing today’s AI and HPC applications, namely memory and communication bandwidth.  Using Samsung’s world leading memory technology, we will be looking at how we can design systems with significantly improved byte to flop ratios allowing improved application performance and developer productivity. We will also be looking at innovative technology for improving communication bandwidth.  Most importantly, we will be looking at both from a system perspective. The effort will be across hardware including memory, networking, power, and RAS; software, including system software, frameworks, and runtimes; and application and performance modeling.

In this position you will architect what the communication stack for our next generation HPC and AI machine.  It will be a codesign effort with the hardware and application teams.  Then working with a team the stack will be prototype evaluated to become the communication stack that runs on the machine.

Location: Choice of Onsite, Hybrid, or Remote:

Onsite at our San Jose Office 5 days a week.  Hybrid, working onsite at our San Jose Office 3 days per week, with the flexibility to work remotely the remainder of your time. Remote, with the opportunity to work from anywhere in the United States.

Travel: An average of one domestic trip travel per quarter

• Provide and innovate in architectural directions in sparse data capabilities for AI and HPC machines.

What You Bring

• A PhD in Computer Science or related field with experience in AI and/or HPC Systems, or a MS in Computer Science or related field with 3 years of relevant experience in AI and/or HPC Systems, or a BS in Computer Science or related field and 5 years of relevant experience in with AI and/or HPC Systems, is preferred.
• Experience working on mechanisms to accelerate sparse data access and processing
• Hands-on experience in an AI and/or HPC co-design effort
• Documented excellence in research and development in the computing field
• Strong verbal and written skills for communication and documentation of technical information
• A demonstrated ability to work independently as well as part of a local and distributed team
• Additional preferred skills including: Experience with AI and/or HPC hardware design; Experience with AI and/or HPC software development; Experience running, modeling, analyzing, or tuning AI and/or HPC applications, and Experience with AI frameworks
