We have an exciting opportunity for a highly skilled and experienced IT leader to join the business as Director of Software Asset Management (SAM). This role is based in our Kansas City, MO office.
 
Reporting to the Senior Vice President, Infrastructure Technology and Operations Executive, the Director of Software Asset Management (SAM) will lead and manage the organization's software asset management program, ensuring efficient and effective utilization of software resources. This role is critical in optimizing software spend, ensuring compliance with licensing agreements, and developing policies for the procurement, deployment, and retirement of software assets. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in contract management, cost optimization, and compliance within the software asset management domain. 

Your Impact

Contract Management 

  • Oversee the management of software agreements, including renewals, terminations, and compliance by working closely with our Vendor Management Office. 
  • Negotiate and manage contracts with software vendors to secure optimal terms and conditions. 
  • Ensure all contracts are up-to-date and stored securely for easy access and reference. 

License Management 

  • Ensure the availability of necessary licenses and compliance with licensing agreements. 
  • Monitor and manage license allocations to prevent legal and financial penalties. 
  • Track and report on license usage to optimize deployment and avoid over-licensing. 

Cost Optimization 

  • Identify and remove unused or underutilized licenses to optimize software spend. 
  • Develop strategies to maximize the value of software investments. 
  • Provide cost analysis and recommendations to management for software-related expenditures. 

Lifecycle Management 

  • Oversee the procurement process for new software, ensuring alignment with organizational needs and standards. 
  • Manage the removal and replacement of unsupported or obsolete software. 
  • Maintain an up-to-date inventory of software assets. 

Policy Development 

  • Develop and implement standards for software acquisition, deployment, usage, and retirement. 
  • Establish guidelines and procedures for the management of software assets across the organization. 
  • Ensure all policies are communicated effectively and adhered to by relevant stakeholders. 

SNOW Product Owner 

  • Manage the SNOW software asset management tool, including loading agreements and monitoring usage. 
  • Ensure accurate and up-to-date data in the SNOW system to support decision-making and reporting. 
  • Provide training and support to users of the SNOW system. 

Compliance Management 

  • Ensure the organization adheres to all software license agreements and regulations. 
  • Conduct regular audits to identify and rectify compliance issues. 
  • Work closely with legal and procurement teams to address any compliance risks. 

Manage Allocations 

  • Provide detailed cost breakdowns to regions, projects, teams, and other stakeholders. 
  • Develop and maintain an allocation model to distribute software costs accurately.
  • Monitor and report on software usage and cost allocation to support budgeting and forecasting.

Who You Are

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Business Administration, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience. 
  • At least 12+ years of relevant professional experience in software asset management or related fields. 
  • Strong understanding of software licensing models and compliance requirements. 
  • Proven experience in contract negotiation and management. 
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills. 
  • Proficiency with software asset management tools, particularly SNOW. 
  • Strong leadership and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams. 
  • Experience in cost optimization and financial analysis. 
  • Familiarity with ITIL practices and principles.
