The University of Miami/UHealth Department of Physical Therapy has an exciting opportunity for a full time Physical Therapist Fellow to work in Coral Gables, FL. The Physical Therapist Resident/ Fellow assesses, plans, organizes, and participates in rehabilitative programs that assist patients and clients to improve mobility, relieve pain, increase strength, and improve disabling conditions resulting from disease or injury.
CORE JOB FUNCTIONS
1. Plans, prepares, or carries out individually designed programs of physical treatment to maintain, improve or restore physical functioning, alleviate pain, and prevent physical dysfunction in patients.
2. Performs and documents initial examinations and evaluates data to identify problems and reach a diagnosis prior to intervention.
3. Records prognosis, treatment, response, and progress in patients’ charts or appropriate database.
4. Reviews physicians’ referrals and patients’ medical records to help determine appropriate diagnosis and physical therapy treatment.
5. Instructs patients and families on how to continue treatment procedures at home.
6. Confers with the patients, medical practitioners, and other stakeholders to plan, implement, and assess intervention programs.
7. Administers manual exercise, massage or traction to help relieve pain, increase patient strength, and decrease or prevent deformity or crippling.
8. Provides educational information about physical therapy, injury prevention, ergonomics, and ways to promote health.
9. Evaluates effects of treatment at various stages and adjust treatments to achieve maximum benefit.
10. Tests, measures, and records patients’ strength, motor development and function, sensory perception, functional capacity, and respiratory or circulatory efficiency.
11. Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.

CORE QUALIFICATIONS
Master's degree in relevant field required
No previous experience required
Valid State of Florida Physical Therapist license required
Refer to department description for applicable certification requirements

Department Specific Qualifications
Education:
Doctoral Degree in Physical Therapy
Certification and Licensing:
Licensure as a Physical Therapist in the state of Florida
Current Florida State physical therapy license in good standing or demonstrate an ability to obtain Florida Licensure
Possess ABPTS Sports or Orthopedic board certification or completion of prior ABPTRE accredited sports/orthopedic physical residency program.
Possess one of the following: a current ATC designation, current license as an EMT, or certification as an emergency responder.
Experience:
Minimum of 1 year of relevant experience

Athletics Responsibilities: Athlete Care & Injury Assessment and Management
Evaluate and manage acute and chronic upper extremity injuries in athletes.
Develop immediate care and management strategies for common baseball-related injuries such as rotator cuff tears, labral injuries, and ulnar collateral ligament (UCL) injuries.
On-Site Athletic Event Coverage
Provide physical therapy coverage for athletic events, including games and practices.
