The Opportunity
This position works out of our Lake County Illinois, Abbott Park Building location in the Global Engineering Services division, serving the greater Lake and Cook County Facilities.
As a Maintenance Mechanic Tech II, you’ll have the chance to provide “skilled trade” work with a group of other likeminded trades people, to build and support our facilities. Working closely with production managers, Facility Engineers, facility occupants and our 24 hours call center. All designed to support our team and company success. You will work with vendors for material quotes, installation, repairs and replacement of building infrastructure as needed.
What You’ll Work On
- Performs skilled maintenance and repair services of facility systems such as mechanical, electrical, and building systems.
- Ensure industry best practices within all production and office spaces
- Continuously improve quality processes and standards
- Solve problems and support procurement and new idea implementation
- Perform skilled maintenance and repair services on our building systems
- Interpret blueprints and schematics
- Implement best practice methods and techniques
- Identify reoccurring problems with equipment and machinery
- Support facility inspections, Predictive and preventative maintenance
- Support other trades when needed
- Conduct periodic inspections to evaluate requests for repair.
- Perform building walk-throughs to identify needed repairs and follow up with corrective action.
- Maintain facility to ensure reliable and effective operation.
- Knowledge of man-doors, overhead doors, high-speed rollups, motor functionality, dock and dock levelors
- Basic knowledge of plumbing and identifying repairs needed
Major Responsibilities:
- The Plumber/Pipefitter will be responsible for laying out, fabricating, assembling, installing, and maintaining piping and piping systems, fixtures, and equipment for steam, hot water, heating, cooling, lubricating, sprinkling, and industrial processing systems.
- Selecting type and size of pipe and related materials according to job specifications, knowledge of system operation, and study of building plans / working drawings.
- Planning sequence of installation to avoid obstructions and cutting pipe.
Threading and ending pipe by hand or with pipe bending machine.
Assembling and joining piping by means of threaded, chalked, wiped, soldered, brazed fused, or cemented joints. - Securing pipes to structure with clamps, brackets, and hangers, using hand tools.
Test, inspect, replace piping and pressure relief devices on production and facility equipment. - Coordinate scheduled work with customers and service providers.
Perform building walk-throughs to identify needed repairs and follow up with corrective action. - Check, test and replace steam traps as necessary.
- Maintain facility to ensure reliable and effective operation.
- Install valves and other plumbing fixtures in restrooms.
- Must have knowledge of underground, sewer lines, draining system.
- Work may be on new equipment or rearrangement and/or retrofitting of existing equipment and accessories.
- Performs training and hands on work instruction for less experienced fitter / plumber.
