ABOUT THE ROLE
As the Senior Associate, Electrical, Controls, and Automation Engineer, you will provide technical leadership by guiding engineering excellence and ensuring robust design and implementation standards across the site. You will oversee the planning, development, and coordination of new designs, Piping and Instrument Diagrams (P&IDs), and engineering activities for equipment installations, ensuring alignment with operational and strategic objectives. You will demonstrate strong initiative in identifying cost‑effective solutions, driving engineering and process standardization, and implementing best practices across S. C. Johnson’s Home Storage manufacturing facilities.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Collaborate with Safety, Engineering, Maintenance, R&D, and Operations to standardize factory automation and controls, integrating company standards and industry best practices.
Design, develop, and implement advanced automation and control system solutions to improve operational efficiency, reliability, and performance.
Lead and manage capital projects focused on controls and automation enhancements, including new equipment installations, technology upgrades, and mitigation of equipment obsolescence.
Serve as a subject matter expert in programming, controls, and automation, providing strategic engineering guidance and hands‑on support to cross‑functional project teams.
Partner with Maintenance to ensure the reliability, maintainability, and long‑term performance of new and upgraded equipment systems.
Champion the development, deployment, and continuous improvement of safety and engineering best practices within the facility, while coordinating with Global Engineering to align and implement global standards.
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE YOU’LL BRING
Bachelor of Science in an Electrical Engineering field or related discipline with 5+ years of experience or advanced degree in similar position with 3+ years’ experience.
Qualified candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States without the need for current or future sponsorship.
PREFERRED EXPERIENCES AND SKILLS
Demonstrated ability to work successfully both independently and with minimal supervision, as well as within a team environment.
Extensive programming, electrical controls, and automation experience across both current and legacy Allen‑Bradley (AB) and Modicon platforms.
Proficient in Ignition and Wonderware software applications for manufacturing processes and HMI control systems.
Strong background in packaging processes, including vision inspection, filling, labeling, closing, packaging, and palletizing systems.
Hands-on expertise with industrial vision systems.
Skilled in industrial network architecture, design, and troubleshooting.
Experienced in data acquisition, analysis, and system integration for manufacturing environments.
Proven capability working with industrial PLCs, networked control systems, and broader IT/OT infrastructure.
Robust electrical knowledge, including AC/DC principles, PLCs, HMIs, VFDs, servo motors and motion control, robotics, and pneumatics.
Competent in machine safety standards, including ISO 13849, Performance Levels (PL), and Safety Integrity Levels (SIL); experienced in conducting machine safety risk assessments and designing safety‑related control systems.
Understanding of NFPA/NEC electrical classification requirements for hazardous locations.
Demonstrated proficiency in preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance methodologies.
Experienced in modifying, troubleshooting, and programming industrial control systems.
Solid project management capabilities with familiarity in project management tools and methodologies.
Working knowledge of SAP for maintenance planning, scheduling, and materials/parts management.
Practical TPM and Lean experience, including application of continuous improvement tools and methodologies.
