Position Summary(Basic Job Function)
This is a temporary position.
To assist and/or perform routine maintenance and repair work to agricultural facilities and equipment.
Unit Position Summary
Assists in the operation, monitoring, maintenance, and services of all aspects of the MSU South Campus Anaerobic Digester and Compost facilities. Included in the operations is an anaerobic digester, associated material holding tanks, transfer pumps, biogas handling equipment, solid-liquid separation system, combined heat and power (CHP) system, solid manure storage, and compost operation.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Performs daily operations of the digester and compost facility
- Assists with preventative maintenance on equipment at both facilities
- Assists with the coordination of incoming feedstocks and exported products
- Assists with compiling and evaluating data to provide reports and operational updates
- Assists in the tracking and recording of facility feedstock and product inventory
- Clean and organize facility and equipment – utilizing power washer and heavy equipment
- Oversee student employees in daily tasks
- Collection of manure, effluent and compost samples to track process performance
- Conducts scientific tests on manure and effluent in a lab following strict protocols
- Provide occasional tours of the facility to the public
- Operate heavy equipment such as a payloader to move and load bulk materials
- Other duties as assigned

- This position requires periodic weekends, holidays, standby, and overtime
- Work includes viewing gauges and instruments, requiring visual acuity and color perception.
Desired Qualifications
- Three years of agricultural work desired
- Basic knowledge of skilled trades
