What you’ll do 
As a member of Global Technical Operations (GTO) you will play a critical role in our biologics packaging – enabling and commercializing our life-saving medicines. You will accomplish this as a technical leader through the design and development, specification, testing and standardization of secondary packaging. You will have a direct impact on departmental performance, through communicating across work groups and project teams. This to provide creative and timely solutions to a wide range of packaging challenges while upholding Global Biologics Operations standards to deliver best in class biopharmaceutical packing/labeling. 

 

The Senior Packaging Engineer is an experienced professional and standout colleague in the development and implementation of secondary packaging designs for biopharmaceutical products including medical devices and combination products. You will be responsible for providing technical leadership both tactically and strategically, making independent decisions while considering impact on operations schedules and project planning. You will report to GTO and work independently from the Sweden Biologics Center in Södertälje Sweden. 

 

The work is done within all pillars of Packaging Technology including design freeze, technology transfer, packaging qualification and lifecycle management. This role will have site responsibility for assigned projects and will be accountable to work with R&D, formulation sciences, supply chain as well as internal and external packaging organizations. 

 

Other parts of the role: 

  • Accountable for projects to design, develop, and implement secondary packaging systems for a variety of biopharmaceutical product types including vial and combination products. This responsibility is one of technical ownership, authoring and maintaining packaging specifications and ensuring design inputs, once qualified, meet design outputs 

  • Lead technical efforts across sites and functions to ensure design suitability 

  • Lead continuous improvement and change control efforts to ensure timely resolution of complex issues with respect to technical packaging performance, sustainability, and compliance requirements, without disrupting commercial supply or new market launches 

  • Cross-train as SME on all functions of secondary packaging and combination product design control requirements and serve as local Packaging Technology SME for secondary packaging specification and design performance including lifecycle management 

  • Represents GTOs Packaging as the primary technical contact onsite on technical matters often requiring coordination between Manufacturing and Technical Operations 

 

Essentials for the role 

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related field 

  • Minimum of five years relevant engineering and operational packaging experience with knowledge of current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMPs) in pharmaceutical or medical fields 

  • Demonstrated skill with use of cad design software; SolidWorks, Artios  

  • Experience and knowledge in Design Controls as related to Medical Devices and Combination Products preferred 

  • Demonstrated ability to progress a packaging project from inception to commercialization including packaging materials, designs and manufacturing processes, qualification, validation and systems 

  • Excellent problem solving abilities with the ability to work through ambiguous situations 

  • Strong interpersonal, organizational, collaboration and communication skills
