As a Senior Firmware / Embedded Software Engineer:
- Experience developing in real-time operating systems (RTOS), such as RT-Linux, TI-RTOS, and Micrium μc/OS, including understanding of tasks, scheduling, priorities, and messaging.
- Develop embedded software / firmware, supporting software architectural design efforts and implementing software to according to requirements.
- Document the design of software and test systems.
- Determine and document appropriate software development and test methodologies.
- Provide input and technical oversight as a consumer of software produced by internal and external teams.
- Provide field application support as needed to customers and Bosch field support staff.
- Engage with project management on schedule development including but not limited to creating estimates for product management, evaluating risks and opportunities that affect development plans, and working with stakeholders of software to support integration planning.
- Work closely with product management, customers, operations, and other stakeholders to develop and articulate product and system strategies, co-develop technology and product roadmaps, and decompose customer and business needs into technical requirements.
- Work with vendors, providing technical inputs, co-developing technical strategies, and assisting in defining scope of work.
- Mentor software engineers to grow domain and technology knowledge.
- Support the software lifecycle development process including creating & reviewing technical requirements from stakeholder requirements, capturing design inputs, design creation, testing, and continuation support.
- Act as a problem solver and an innovative thinker, developing a working knowledge of broadcast media and communication technologies and use cases.
- Survey technologies relevant to the broadcast media and communication technologies application space and perform technology exploration and prototyping.
Qualifications
- Bachelors or Masters degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Engineering, or related field.
- 8 to 12+ years embedded software / firmware development experience preferred.
- Master’s or PhD degree, generally 5+ years embedded software / firmware development experience.
- Must demonstrate high proficiency developing products on embedded hardware platforms in a professional environment.
- Experienced in most stages of the software development lifecycle process: design input gathering and refinement, design and development, verification, manufacturing deployment and continuation.
- Experience with source code control (Git, Mercurial).
- Experience planning and executing the development effort of a component or capability for customers/users.
- Preferred prior experience leading software development projects.
- Preferred prior experience writing automated tests.
- Knowledge Required:
- Advanced C/C++ proficiency in an embedded, real-time environment
- Preferred knowledge of Python, especially in automated test environments
- Knowledge of design patterns and solutions for common programming challenges in both high and low level languages.
- Working knowledge of real-time firmware environments and development methodologies to support real-time processes and the optimization of performance.
