About the role

Description

The Clinical Respiratory Therapist II provides respiratory care to patients with acute and chronic respiratory diseases and provides training and support to new and current team members.  Similar to the Clinical Respiratory Therapist I role, you will be responsible for educating patients on respiratory care and equipment, conducting diagnostic tests, developing treatment plans, and monitoring patient progress.  Additionally, you will train employees on departmental functions, products, services, and help answer questions and find solutions.

Job Duties / Essential Functions:  

  • Trains new Respiratory Therapists on proper processes within the department and company.  Provides training updates to current employees, and acts as a mentor and resource by providing guidance and support to all employees. 
  • Ability to set up and operate all respiratory care equipment and supplies in use, including invasive and non-invasive ventilators, CPAP and Bilevel devices, pulse oximetry and portable oxygen concentrators and in accordance with the specific treatment parameters prescribed by the patient’s doctor.  
  • Educates patient, family, or caregiver on the equipment use and functions, therapy orders, and disease process.  Provides guidance and directions for basic troubleshooting. 
  • Responsible for conducting all follow-up calls on assigned advanced equipment according to schedule, confirming treatment progression with patient and providing support and guidance.  
  • Evaluates the appropriateness of the patient’s treatment plan, monitors progress and collaborates with care team to change or modify therapy.  
  • Reviews and verifies patient orders within Brightree. Depending on the location, may be required to pull equipment from warehouse/inventory, assemble, and stage for delivery. 
  • Documents patient treatment plan, their response, any revisions to therapy plan.  Communicates with care team at various intervals to ensure patient care. 
  • Partners with lead to administer the yearly competency training for all respiratory therapists.  
  • Understands and practices the rules regarding patient confidentiality, HIPPA and compliance, and safety.  Adhere to all state and federally mandated standards regarding confidentiality and patient rights. 
  • All other duties as assigned 

Skills / Qualifications:  

  • Graduate of an accredited Respiratory Therapy Program 
  • Current Certification or Registration by the National Board for Respiratory Care 
  • Current Licensure to practice in the State of Pennsylvania.  
  • Current licensure to practice in the State of Ohio (if applicable), Current licensure to practice in the State of West Virginia (if applicable), Current licensure to practice in the State of New York (if applicable). 
  • Current CPR (BLS) 
  • 3 to 5 years previous experience in the field of respiratory care.  
  • Valid state Driver’s License  
  • Strong communication skills and able to communicate with care team and patients according to their level and abilities. 
  • Able to work independently and part of a team.   
  • Solid organizational skills and detail oriented. 
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, and Teams. 
  • Ability to read charts, physician orders, and medical records.
